    Crankshaft bolt - replace or keep?

    Afternoon all,
    We are just in the middle of replacing the timing belt on my 3.0 D4, and after hearing about the front crankshaft seal failures I came prepared with a new seal and some loctite.
    After reading the WSM, it states that the crankshaft bolt is to be thrown away and a new bolt fittted each time.
    Does anyone have any light to shed on this, as to wheter the bolt is a throwaway due to factory loctite on the thread, or is it a stretch type bolt, therefore a good reason not to use again.

    It is a torque to yield bot and must be replaced.

    To tidy-up this thread, the bolt was subsequently removed as the seal was in need of replacement. An identical bolt from a Territory engine is being sourced from the local Ford dealer as the nearest LR dealer is 200 kms away.

    And there is differences between early and late crankshaft threads/ bolt sizes too...

    Yes, the later is M16, earlier is M14 - made sure to check this out first

    Plan ahead and have the bolt on hand rather than buy from a Ford dealer at almost $55!
