    Disco 3 AUX help

I know aux issues have been covered extensively, but after days of searching, I'm positive that my question hasn't been answered.

    Background info:
It's a discovery 3 HSE (2006) with an alpine DVD player fitted. I bought it second hand and the DVD player seems to have been fitted by land rover.
The physical player is in the upper glove compartment and fills it completely.
The model number of the player is DVE 5207.

    Issue:
The rear aux jack doesn't seem to work. There is no 'plug' as described in other scenarios. I took the 'module' out and there was no visible damage. After this, with some hesitation, I removed the passenger kick panel and found the plugs to be connected. I tried manually wiring in an aux after disconnecting the plug and still no sound. Interestingly, the DVD's sound still worked suggesting that it has tapped into the aux at an earlier point. The DVD sound comes through the aux menu on the radio.

Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi - welcome!

I suggest that the aux input is connected from DVD player - directly into the back of the head unit. They usually cut the (IIRC!) red, blue and black cables (right/left/ground) cables which head down to kick panel and then on behind the cigarette socket in console... then take output from dvd directly to head unit.

As there is only one aux input - you would need to install a switch - to either have aux in from DVD or other source, like:

DVD -----------> RCA cable -------> input 1 on Switch ----> head unit

source --------> RCA cable -------> input 2 on Switch ----> head unit

I'm hoping this answered your question. If not, maybe ask the question again.

    Cheers,
    Rob

    Thanks for the response Rob,
Do you know where they cut the cables? I don't mind having no DVD sound coming through the speakers as the headphones can be used. If I can, I'll install a switch, but only if it is going to be a hassle free procedure.

    Thanks

Im going to guess they cut them behind the head unit. Its not hard to get the head unit out to look, though be careful that the little metal clips that hold the dash trim in dont go missing - you'll never find them again.

If its not there then they may have cut into it behind the glovebox. I would take the alpine unit out and have a look-see in case you can find it from there. You could hopefully trace the wires from the dvd unit to the connection. I dont think its a fun job to pull out the glovebox.

Regarding the switch, i would only put one in of you need the dvd player and aux at the same time, and you wanted the the DVD sound to play through the stereo sometimes, otherwise just splice an Aux connection in and/or cut the dvd connection.

For pics and stuff on wiring in an aux connection check this post:

Its a different head unit but its a similar process. It also has a link to a video for dash trim removal too.

    Best of luck!

    Cheers

    Thanks Dan,
Do you think it's going to be easier to remove the head unit or the glovebox? Whilst you said taking apart the glove box would be hard, I can't imagine the head unit being easier.

It's way easier to pull the head unit out. Grab the bottom sides of the trim piece which runs across the top of the head unit and down the sides of the a/c controls - and pull backwards and slightly up. There are then torx bolts which hold the head unit in - it slides forward easily. About a 2 min job if you have various torx drives handy. The aux input plug is on its own - you'll see it has been cut and wires colour changes/tapes up.
