I just had an Opposite Lock bar installed and I installed a Carbon Winch 12000kg unit. (click here)
The Carbon Winch is Australian designed and after speaking with Dan at Carbon Winch, I was impressed with his knowledge, since buying the unit I am also impressed with the packaging, delivery and follow up by Dan.
Removal of the bar is needed to install the winch, so I had the installer mount the winch for me. The Carbon Winch can be rotated to get the free wheel release in the correct place.
The photo is prior to my wiring the unit, but there is plenty of room behind the bar and routing the power is relatively easy on the D4.

A question, forgive my ignorance.
In this old thread http://www.aulro.com/afvb/l319-disco...s-d3-need.html this was stated:
"Depends what you want to do with your winch. For recreational, not comp use, a 9500lb is fine, so is a 10,000. A 12lb is overkill, too heavy"
Any particular reason to go for the 11 or 12 as above rather than say a 9.5? I had a look and the weight difference between the two is only about 3kg so I guess that's not a real differentiator.
Just to have a bit of extra 'grunt' then?
David
Maybe overkill but this 11000lb in particular is a fresh design, better value(includes extras like dampener, shackles ect nearly making the winch itself the same price as the 9500) and as you mentioned only 3kg more. Final kicker is the waterproof/dustproof rating which I'm not sure the rest have.
Edit: Just noticed the weight difference of the winch is actually only 1kg, net weights on winches.
Don't panic too much - it's not a difficult thing to install a winch in an already fitted bar...
You certainly do NOT need to remove the bar to fit the winch...
Tombie,
You are correct, the bar does not need to be removed to fit the winch. :)
The OL sales guy thought it did, the OL installer knew better, he had told the sales guy that it is better/easier to fit the winch with the bar not in place.
The winch was fitted it at no charge, I did the wiring at a later stage.
