A few years ago we took our then 2 and 3 y.o. girls to the Kimberly for five weeks. They loved it. Regularly ask when are we doing it again? Having said that they've been conditioned to long stints in the car from birth as they have Grandparents in Kalgoorlie so have regularly done the 6 hour drive. They've also camped from a few months old and love it.Quote:

Another questions is if we should have a camper trailer. Although we have other Vehicles can share some loads, but it is good to be self sufficient. Only concern is how difficult it can be in those terrains, I don't want to be the burden of the convey. Otherwise, I had seen so many camper trailers on Your tube. Any recommendations? I am think of getting one that can accommodate up to 6 people. What is essential requirements for the trailer? Off Road tyres, suspension, good set of kitchen and easy set up tenant, good size of storage, light weight? Any brands or model? Should I get a second hand one since we only need to 3-4 times a year? We still have a full size of tents and equipment for camping. Would a camper trailer make the trip much more enjoyable or make a trip more difficult and time consuming on setting up?

If you haven't any experience with campers, i might suggest seeing if you can you hire a camper trailer where you are? Or perhaps in Cairns so you don't have to tow it so far? Or perhaps if convinced you must buy then look for a good one for sale second hand.

In concern with the trailer, unless your prepared to spend a while setting up/packing up, I'd stay away from a "soft floor" style camper.
Hard floor, or what's termed Rear Fold/Forward Fold trailers are so much easier and quicker to set up.

DIS, if the dealer refuses to install LLAMS, why not do so yourself? I'd be happy to help out, have got the stuff needed to do the job etc. Am in Wantirna South.
I agree with chops, and others. Hire a hard floor camper. If you're keen to buy I would step up to something like this forward folding camper.

It can be done.
We towed our hard floor AussieSwag camper to the Tip, including the OTT. Suffered one flat tyre and a dint in the floor. Needed to be towed twice up muddy exit banks on the OTT.

The corrugations on the Development Road were pretty bad when we went and bounced it around a lot. Need tough suspension and tyres.
Don't over-specify the camper, but keep the weight as light as possible.
Hard floors seal against water and dust much better than softtops.
