2008 Disco 3 replacement engine options / costs

My face this afternoon when the dealer rang and offered $1500 as "goodwill gesture" must have been a picture.

Guess he heard from the warranty mob that I'm getting the engine stripped and inspected to find root cause and then taking the issue up with Fair Trading if necessary. :twisted:

Sorry old son, you'll have to do better than that. My "goodwill" is well and truly spent. :censored:

My guess, given it only had 5 days of around town light driving before hitting the freeway on the 6th and final day is that the heads were already warped or the block cracked and sealed up with chemiweld or head gasket repair solution then quickly sold and the bodge couldn't handle the load on the freeway. But, I'll be patient and wait.

I can imagine there were a few choice words after the phone call.

Unless it was intended to be a goodwill gesture on top of them paying the bill? :angel:

Is it likely the warranty company will come to the party? Or does it all depend on a favourable report?

I think the fact you only had it six days and it overheated would point directly back at the dealer. Given most handbooks cite weekly checks of coolant and water any fluid checks by you would have not reasonably occurred. 6 days to failure? Give me (well you) a break.

I'd be curious to get a Land Rover mechanic put a scan tool on it and see if there is history, anyone who does a bodge job might not be smart enough to clear the faults.

All depends on the report apparently.

Mind you, given that their rep was unaware that to access the engine prior to stripping would require body removal and then leave me with a vehicle in multiple immobile sections and possibly not where it needed to be for repair (all at my cost mind you), I have my doubts.

Ironically I had actually checked the levels the day before - habit before long trips - due to the Syd to Bris nature of my planned drive.

Curious - what was the end result here Tim? Reading along fascinated, only to be left on a cliff hanger!
