Hi Scott not done an 8spd trans service yet however i woukd take yhe approach that unless extremely abused the oil is unlikely at that age and those kms to actuallu have broken down and the most important thing is to change the filter to ensure overall pressures are good. So, a partial change DONE REGULARLY with a filter should do the trick. I'm taking this route with the 5l40e in the l322 after i fit the torque converter eventually.

This makes good sense Jc. After a few rounds of this approach the oil would be at an overall younger age in effect.

I haven't read of a steel sump conversion for the 8 speed to make filter changing easier (assuming it's integral with sump like 6 speed, which I haven't actually checked). That would make filter changing more expensive.

Not having a go at the OP, but honestly to pay what they did for that service.... might I add blindly, I just dont understand...

Its your vehicle, ask the questions, if as an owner and the person paying the bill, if you are not sure get all details explained to you. At the end of the day a customer/owner should be able to leave a place that has just serviced their vehicle and feel happy about it... or at least think, well its been all done and I'm satisfied with it all.

This is an example that really doesnt help the reputation of the motor vehicle industry, because regardless of work that was or wasnt done, the owner/customer isnt happy and doesnt know where all the cost is, so their belief is they have been ripped off. This is also the fault of the repairer too, they should explain clearly in simple english what did or didnt get done.

While I tend to be on the other extreme end of things, where by the time I've finished going through the invoice the customer often has that glazed (bored) look in their eyes, but at least they know what was done and where the cost is and they dont feel like they have just been robbed in the back alley.

Regardless of where you get your vehicle serviced or repaired, ask the questions, dont leave until you are happy with the answers.
