Decision - SDV6 HSE v's Landmark

So in summary, eDiff is very unlikely to be useful, given our intended usage, and while it is reputed to be stronger, the std diff has shown itself to be sufficient for towing.

The extra luxuries of the Landmark or HSE Luxury can be nice, especially given we plan to do many km's in this car to different parts of the country.

Time to talk turkey with the dealer. Wish me luck!

Larger CVs are fitted with the e-diff in the D3/D4 but the e-diff itself isn't stronger.

They're pretty rare to find in the 2010 - my wife would kill for heated seats. It's the one good thing she has to say about her previous Volvo!

Interesting Graeme, you'll likely be the first in Australia to undertake the conversion. Look forward to hearing about your journey doing it.

No difficulty getting a 4.2 or 5.0 SC e-diff as they were standard fitment but the different ratios would mean rebuilding 1 from 2 and my (only) vehicle off the road whilst its done. Only the diff centre and side housing are needed as the pinion would not have to be disturbed, plus new side bearings and seals so not too drastic. A straight swap and fitting the control module from the same vehicle would be ideal, avoiding the need for calibration, plus some wiring harness upgrade and the CCF edited. The RRV's drive-shafts for open and e-diff are identical, unlike the D3/D4s. Its a real shame that LR didn't fit e-diffs as standard equipment to all later RRVs rather than just the SC.

I still got very badly bogged in soft sand more than once with the E diff.:mad:
Although this had a bit to do with driver error…....

But a couple of times, on the farm, in wet black clay,it has been very helpful.Once i thought we had no hope getting out after sliding into a bore drain,but the vehicle scrambled out,much to everyones amazement.

Well the decision was made.
We put a deposit on a showroom new D4 HSE Landmark today.
Got a reasonable deal, not as low as we hoped, but ok. $104k for the Landmark with Blindspot monitoring, and mats for passengers and boot areas.
We should pick up our first Landrover next week.
Let the obsession begin! :-)
