Some D4 questions, contemplating purchase

Yes 265/65R18 fits underneath deflated, a few have done it.
Have a read of these threads and a search for others will reveal more.

I had both on the D3, initially rods and then LLAMS. For the short time I had LLAMS I found it more convenient and more configurable. It was really nice to run on highway at -20 height, much better driving, flatter trajectory. Off-road, gave me many more choices. I will be getting the system for the D4.

Andy, unfortunately they don't. I went and bought a second hand 18 inch Disco rim for my second spare to put on the rear only and they won't clear the rear brakes either. Very sad and I had already put my damaged K02 on it for our recent trip. Luckily I tried it out before we left.


EDIT I just had another look and the rear callipers barely clear the inside of the GOE rims. There is less clearance than for the larger front disks and the rear wheels are much more scored on the inside than the fronts due to the stones etc catching on the callipers.

This bloody tyre size dilemma is driving me crazy, long term I can see it is necessary to go Compomotive 18" Rims.

I would love to go 265/65-18 or 285/60-18 both 31.5" diameter.

Plan B is 265/60-18 which is a 30.5" diameter

Do I still have to relocate air con lines with the 31.5 tyre"?

I am assuming if I go the 30.5" tyre which is only half inch over OEM that there would be zero issues?

Is the 31.5 too big for a daily driver (fitted with AT Tyres)?

Should I just keep it conservative with the 30.5"?

I feel like I'm falling into the aftermarket trap and I haven't even got one yet. See this is where the Toyo LC simplifies things for off road.

I think maybe I'm looking into all this too much and torturing myself with frivolous decisions.

Spare could be solved by going rear wheel carrier as suggested. Now have to decide on RidgiDidge or Frontrunner, any suggestions on the two. I noticed a lot of carriers the tyres cover the rear tail lights, this I definitely don't want. I would prefer it centred more to have clear view Iv tail lights.

Hi Babs,

I run a 265/65r18 in the BFG KO2s as a daily driver. Great Size/Tyre. Zero rubbing anywhere (2012 D4) even in extreme offroad situations. Its nice being a little higher offroad too, although a little more would be nice :)

I decided against keeping the tyre underneath as it is too exposed to damage for my liking, instead using the RidgiDidge carrier. Great piece of kit, it does make it a little more difficult to access the rear (an extra step is all).

I have 265/65r18 ko2 and didn't need to relocate the rear air lines, there's just a hint of rubbing on the plastic wheel well liner, but nothing major, and I think that's due to fitting GOE rockslides so now a few screws are missing to keep the liner in place
The 285/60 are a tiny bit smaller so should be better

You will have to forget about inches and use proper tyre sizes so we know what you are talking about!


I use the 285/60R18 BFG K02's as my daily drive and they are great. Very slight rubbing which doesn't matter and they improve the cars ride as well.

Or do you have to remove heat shields etc?

285/60-18 are technically a few mm smaller diameter but they are wider, does this cause any rubbing being wider.

Don't go any wider than 265 if you have any ambitions of fitting conventional snow chains on the front.

Definitely. With 285s there's not even a finger's width of space between the tyre sidewall and upper control arm.

Snow chains aren't something I have to worry about up here. :D
