Congrats. I am close to selling my F6 and still can't decide on new or a good secondhand. Once upon a time I was scared of the high costs of problems without warranty but after owning the a D3 I am happy to work on it. I don't know if I can live without my V8. It just sounds too good. I have recently found a nice D4 V8 in Brisbane though. Pitty they drink like a fish.

Umm, has Bruce sold you the chip upgrade yet?

He's a good man, looks after his clients well. Wonder he didn't give you a DEFENDER, he seems to have plenty.

I may have missed it but did you order the e-diff. The problem with the used market is not many were ordered from new as most spend their life on the school run.

Fortunately the vehicle they had in their inventory already had E-Locker fitted. Yippe

Some more questions regarding fitting bigger tyres 265/65-18 or the 285/60-18

In another thread it was commented a loss of power albeit that was a 2.7. (Thanks Andy)

How noticeable would it be with the SDV6?
    I am planning on a DPL re-flash.

The other concern I have is will this put any extra load on drivetrain, Electronics abs tc etc, diffs, CV's, gearbox etc?
I would think not only 1.5 inches increase but just want to be sure, I'd love some feedback.

At the end of the day I want to go the bigger tyre (265/65 285/60 R18's) purely for the old school mentality more sidewall is better but I assume if I went with a 265/60-18 there would be sufficient sidewall protection. I don't want to sacrifice reliability for that extra sidewall.

Every 4wd I have owned over the past 25 years has gone up an average of minimum 2" in tyre size, in saying that the only compromise was a slight power loss, LC's Patrols, Hilux's etc they were strong enough in the drivetrains and minimal electronics.

What concerns me is the D4 is obviously fine tuned to perform in the stock version, with electronics tuned to suspension, wheels & braking etc.... What really is the compromise I would be making with the bigger profile tyres.

Or am I worrying too much and the D4 is more than capable to handle a bigger tyre?

I feel like an infant starting all over again, with the D4, it goes against everything I have been accustomed to. Airbags over coils and leaf, independent F&R over live axels, lockers over electronics, TC, DSC, EPB, CCV, APB BLA BLA BLA.

It all makes for great conversation and the dumb questions I ask I'm sure there will be others who come along that will benefit from the replies. :P

Don't forget shift points move. Torque band shifts... The tune won't sort that...

You're chasing the old world of "clearance" thinking like the old school vehicles.

I have always run larger tyres. Always...

With the D4 I didn't change where I drive, and barely changed sizes... And I have absolutely no problems at all.. And no compromise.

Good point on the talk band
Talk band will change, what disadvantage will this pose?

I'm not necessarily looking for more underbody clearance, it's the tyre/rim combination sidewall concern. I don't slow down for cattle grids and rough roads with big holes.

I'm worried with less sidewall I'm more prone to rim damage, then the concern of rocky stuff. I've seen the vids and seen them do it on 19" & 20" rims but they look so vulnerable. And I've seen plenty of sidewall punctures. I've seen and heard some success stories, I just don't want to be one of the fail stories

    I don't won't big sacrifices for the sake of the 265/65 285/60 R18 so I'm trying to build a good case on Pro's & Con's.

I'm going long range tank so I don't have to worry about the spare fitting and spare wheel carrier is already ordered.

So I just want to make sure I'm making the right tyre choice as it's the most expensive single item purchase (rim tyre package) out of all the accessories
