Did your D4 have many scratches, particularly bush pinstripes?
I've picked up a few and have used the same polish after reading recommendations on here.
And it has worked very well but in the right light you still can see some of the scratches.
So should I keep going with perhaps more applications or harder buffing with the Auto Glym polish or accept some amount of scratching and move on to the other steps (Zaino etc)?

If you're worried about it Scott, i'd be looking into a buffing machine. I've looked into them and was about to buy one several times.

I have to admit, I usually cover them up with the next step. Problem is I know the buffing machine will get rid of them, I just don't trust myself to use one and not cause more damage than good. Might get one and do a test run on the daily. Machine vs. hand polish is like comparing chalk and cheese... And there lies your problem...

I definitely got rid of a most of the scratches by hand before the next step. But i had 2 pinstripes that were deeper. 1 is gone the other is too deep to get out completely and I'm pretty sure if i had the machine it would be gone after seeing other people's results.

So the Zaino does actually hide mild blemishes/scratches as well as protect the finish?

Oh yeah definitely. You can't see that deeper pinstripe unless you go looking for it and know where it is.

As you guys would know though, there's only so much clear coat you can buff away at before its all gone. Heavy pinstriping would be a problem....Which is why i bought paint shield.

Yep exactly. I recently bought a 4L tub of Paint Shield too but should have got it sooner.
At least the pinstriping is fairly mild, hence my queries.

When I get lazy with my jag I go to a place which does a good hand wash and machine polish for $170 when I twist their arm, and then I take it home and use the Zaino clear coat straight away.

Scott - I use the Auto Glym Super Resin polish too - it's good stuff. For bush pin stripes though, the best I've found is Re-Po Paint Doctor. It is better (and lasts longer on the shelf) than the Auto Glym and Meguiars scratch removers. The Auto Glym and Meguiars products are both a liquid or cream, and tend to "separate" in the bottle if left standing for too long, whereas the Paint Doctor is a paste.

The young bloke and I both got a few pin stripes on our vehicles last weekend when we were out getting firewood (they show up worse on his grey Amarok than on the white Disco - and the Amarok is wider) :angel: But a quick rub with Paint Doctor on Sunday sorted them both. ;)

I'd give that a shot too Scott. I've never had a 4x4 before so pinstripes are a new problem for me. Bmkal seems to have found what works... Best thing is it's a once off seeing as you have Paint Shield so don't have to worry about constantly buffing back the clear!
