My 3 years is up in December.
Undecided re extended warranty.
Lot of $$ involved.
Questionable if insurer will come to the party if there's a claim.
I'm thinking I'll take my chances and save the $$.
Can be convinced otherwise, however, but needs to be lots cheaper than $5k.
And only 2 years....
May consider turning the vehicle over ..... Still tax deductible. Even those rules are changing :(

PS. like you, I'm looking also to upgrade to a Matrix.
Seems expensive, I purchased my 3 year / 200,000 Km extended LR warranty in January this year just before the factory warranty expired for $3800-00.
Haven't had to use it yet, but let's me sleep at night as I had a major electrical malfunction when new and a turbo 18 months later.
I have a good relationship with my local dealer and they assure me it will be seemless if a claim is made as they do all the submissions and claims.
( just like the origin warranty ) I have been using them for over 6 years now and
have no reason to doubt their sincerity on the product.
I love the D4, but like all things mechanical, things do break and if you don't like
the unknown a good extended warranty takes the guesswork and keeping your legs and finger crossed for the next 3 years.

I have almost reached the end of the extended warranty period and as others have mentioned it provided me with a level of comfort re any major issue arising.
That said you do need to be aware that a number of things are not covered by the extended warranty but these are clearly stated in the policy documents.
However (there is always one of those isn't there?) the extended warranty insurer has a 'fair wear and tear' element that they apply to items such as control arm bushes (as I found out) and no doubt to other other items on the vehicle as well. This aspect does not, or at least the calculation of what represents fair ware and tear, appear in any of the documents I have. So I guess the insurer can apply any figure that they like........if you take that logic further you may want to question what represents fair wear and tear on an auto trans or a diff or an engine for that matter. :confused:
I guess what I am saying is that as with all things insurance buyer beware!
I look at it this way...
A tax break is a figure of reducing my tax, it still costs money to do so.
Changing vehicles costs a lot of money.
The extended warranty costs a lot of money.
Whichever way I go it will cost money.
Trading to a new one and kitting it out will on the long run will cost the most money. Close to $40k
40k buys me a lot of maintenance and upkeep...

It's important to check who the extended warranty is actually with, as it may not be with the car company. Some companies palm their extended warranties on to other finance companies. Also make sure it is not just a dealer warranty, which is worthless.

Perhaps not. I had a dealer warranty with a Ford and it was excellent. Claims were dealt with on the spot and without hassle.Quote:
