    Smart key not found

G'day gents, need some help. I've changed the battery (2032) on the smart key for the D4 but when I got back into the car and hit the ignition / start button I got the message "Smart Key Not Found. Refer to Manual". I couldn't find anything in the manual about this, anyone had a similar problem and managed to overcome it? I even put the old battery back - which was low - but even that wasn't recognised.

You held it up against the steering column?

They do make me wonder sometimes. My wife was getting that message with her key so I swapped her for my key, thinking I'd change the battery when necessary, but I've not had any trouble at all with hers.

As the D4 transponder battery change is a non event, i normally call into the battery place on a road test and change it while in the car park.

The only two things I can think:
*As mentioned, check the battery is in correct.
*I've had a "new" battery that was already low (well low enough for it not to work, hence why I change out the battery while at the battery place).

I know it sounds silly, but have you checked the new battery voltage?

Do you have the other key for the vehicle so you can give it a try?

Last time mine came up with that message it needed some kind of software update.

It seems as though the 'new' battery (out of a packet) wasn't so 'new' after all. Bought another 'new' battery this morning and, bingo, all's good with the world again.

Yeah, my original battery lasted 4 years. My last 'new' battery lasted all of 10 months.
