Thread: RRS 20x9.5 wheels on D4

Some D4s do have 20"rims.
Check from the part numbers on the rim,I believe the RRS rims dont have the correct weight rating for the D4.
In tyre selection you are looked after better with 20" rims,one of the biggest issues us D4 owners have is the 19" rim and lack of bigger tyres than standard.We resort to a specially made 18" rim,made by Compomotive Wheels UK,and marketed by Green Oval Experience.(Gordon,GGHaggis on here)
There is a spreadsheet on the Green Oval Experience website that lists tyre/wheel combinations that fit the D4.

I would be planning to order a set of Compomotive 18's to fit for more serious trips, and have checked through the tyre size spreadsheet which indicates the 275/45R20 tyres fitted should be ok, but I assume that's with the standard width & offset of the D4 20" wheels (which I believe are 8" wide). These Range Rover wheels (the centre caps say Range Rover) are 9.5" wide, and presumably a different offset, so I was worried there could be clearance issues. I guess I should take it for a test drive and check for rubbing at full steering lock.

My other concern is the 19" spare. My understanding is that legally the tyres on each axle should be the same, but my current car came with a skinny space saver emergency spare wheel, so I imagine there are exceptions to this rule. I know that running different diameter tyres can send the ECU into panic mode, but going by the numbers in the spreadsheet the 20's should be approx 760mm diameter, while the stock 19" is 763mm so it would probably still get me home when required.

Yeah offset shouldn't be a problem, nor the 19" spare (that's the standard scenario with the 20" wheel option) and 275/45/20 is, as you say, near as dammit in size to the 255/55/19.

BUT (and I might beat Tombie to the punch here) as LandyAndy says, the RRS wheels are load rated at 860kg whereas Discovery wheels are load rated at 930 kg, meaning RRS wheels aren't legal on a Disco.

Having unwittingly bought a car with Chinese knock-offs, just peer inside if you can and see if they're even genuine Italian made Land Rover product.

Either way, a/ the dealer surely can't sell you an unroadworthy car, and b/ if you like 20s just not those ones, you'll pick up a set second hand this evening if you want them.

I have genuine LR Stormer wheels on my RRS they are load rated at 920kgs.
Got them after LR dealer originally supplied car with aftermarket Stormer rims, that had a 660kg load rating. They then found another set of aftermarket ones that were rated at 820kg. But, I insisted on genuine and got them. So take care, get one wheel removed and check what is load rating cast into it. Same looking wheels with three diffferent load rating. And no way to tell without removing wheel.

920 kg, there you go. That's the highest rating I've heard.

I'm interested - was that a new or second hand car, and from a LR dealer? I'm still at a loss as to how my car was delivered and only ever serviced by a LR dealer before I bought it, yet it has imitation rims. At least the load rating is equivalent.

Thanks for all the replies, it sounds like I was right to be cautious - I had planned to take these findings in to the dealer and negotiate further, but the vehicle had just been sold (presumably with a roadworthy certificate from the dealer's workshop...).

My D4 (2012 HSE) came with 5 20" rims. From what I've seen the D4's that came with optioned 20" wheels get 5 but the RRS ones only get 4. Supports your theory that it came off a RRS. Bit weird doing it that way, but that's our beloved Land Rover I guess.
