That said it is better here in Sydney, a number of dealers in competition. But strangely enough I ended up playing two branches of the same dealership off against each other when I bought the D4.
Good result from my point of view.

Has anyone looked into importing a near new D4 from the UK as I think the rules now allow (<500km). With the ? dropping there may be bargains when they run the D4 out. Having now owned a D3 for many years I'd be happy with any lack of love from the local dealer as plenty of Indy support.

? = UK Pound
Had a quick look at the import vehicles page on .gov.au.
Pretty sure it still has to be owned by someone living out of country for 12 months...
Not too sure I'd be happy bringing in something that if it turned out to blow a motor or gearbox etc immediately costs me more than a new one here.
yes the base price of these type of vehicle is a bit of a sales gimmick, it might be the in the same price range as a jeep but anyone paying 70000 for a new vehicle probably expects it to have at least some mod cons, which are part of an option package on the dearer cars out there. By the time you get a feature list on a disco similar to what you get on even some kia/hyundai type vehicles then you're at 95k or more and you see the true price of the car.
Not that i need a lot of the features on some modern vehicles ie. push button start. I'm happy to turn the key any day but once one manufacturer starts doing it then the others can't sell thier cars 'till they join the bandwagon no matter how stupid the feature is.
It's from 2018
"Australians will be able to import a new car or motor cycle without the need to go through a local dealer from 2018.
But it must have comparable standards to Australia's, be a right-hand drive passenger vehicle, no more than 12 months old and have no more than 500km on the odometer."
Did they end up passing that ruling???
It was all to do with the end of the Australian car industry and allowing us to buy world vehicles at world prices not inflated AWEstralian prices.
