Hoping to see more with an inspection camera, if I can get into the bell housing somehow.
Do it now, so that it will be on the service history for when it is out of warranty!

Got that covered Nicky. Already noted on service reports and also email correspondence.
    Cheers, Mungus.

    Silicone Hoses

I'll throw this out there again. After a trip to El Questro this Easter, I'm booking the D4 in to get this warranty work done on the small oil weep. (Body Off; around 35,000kms)

While the body is off, I hope to have the dealer do the following and would appreciate some information or thread links please?
    • Replace all relevant hoses to the silicon ones I've read about on here. Can someone please let me know which ones and where to get them from?
    • Remove and clean the intake manifold, I think? For the last 18 months the car has basically done 15 minute trips; so I think it would be very congested. Am I right? Is this what I need to get done?
    • Other than the above two, what would others have done given the opportunity of body off?

Am I on the right path here?
    Cheers, Mungus.

    Not rear main seal

Thought I'd update on the latest with this oil weep.
I took the vehicle in a month ago to have the body off job done to replace the rear main seal. The tech on the day was my favourite tech who resolved an issue a few years back that had a lot of people including LRA stumped, by following his own fault finding ideas.

He was reluctant to move ahead with the original diagnosis of rear main seal and body off job until he himself had further investigated the source of the oil weep. No loan vehicle had been organised so I put it off until this week to get the 3yr service, EPB replacement and investigation done.

To my relief, he has traced the source back to the drivers side rocker cover and turbo drain pipe O-ring. So parts ordered and no body off job required. Happy days - Phew!
    Cheers, Mungus.

I've had several leaks on my car and apart from the sump plug stripped thread as mentioned in an earlier post in this thread the others have all been O Rings in various places. They seem to be worse than gaskets when they start to age a bit!

Great result and very good to hear examples of proper fault finding and diagnosis in the age of "just replace expensive stuff" Hope I get the same approach if ever required.

I'd be interested to hear about the fluid change and how it goes Chris as I'm contemplating the same at maybe 60,000.

    David,
Can you post up your report in the 8 speed sticky mate? Now that we have one!
    Cheers, Mungus.
