tis called implied warranty. I have had success with appliances like that but an engine is a different ball game.
I had this same issue with my 2007 D3. Bracket on the housing broke, timing belts no longer did their thing and the engine beat itself to death. All within about 2000km of having the belts replaced by an authorised indie LR repairer. No compensation and had to fork out $13k for another engine.
I hind sight I may have been able to pursue it legally but was not i na good place back then and did not need the angst and stress in my life.
Left a very bad taste in my mouth and funny enough I will not use that repairer again.

Try buying a caravan, expensive or cheap and see how the dealers treat you if there's a problem.
In our case we got abuse from the yard owner (now deceased) when we had problems and complete crap from his son who took over.
If they can they'll ignore any consumer laws and hide behind "caravan industry standards crap" which really stands for anything goes if it can't be seen.
The pity is so many buyers will accept this treatment rather than get stuck in. I had a spare wheel cover I switched from the van to the back of the Defender saying exactly what we thought and received threats from their solicitors but stuck it out and never got the threatened court action.
Believe me the motor industry is benign compared to the caravan sharks. Do not accept their excuses, they're a pack of arseholes who forget you (or would like to) as soon as they've got your money.

PS. Younger bro who was in the car repair industry for many years has an absolute hatred of car salesman and the back up from stealers.
