    Breakaway Monitor Location

Hi everyone. I have just purchased a 2014 Disco 4 and I am in the process of setting it up for caravan towing. I have read through the forum re Brake Controllers etc and am pretty happy with all of that.

Unfortunately I am in NSW and need to fit a breakaway monitor somewhere. Can people please share where they have fitted theirs? Photos would be great if possible.

    Thanks.

Hi Freeo and welcome to AULRO.

First off, have you bought a Breakaway Battery Monitor yet.

If not, I make a Wireless Breakaway Battery Monitor, Australia's first Wireless unit.

The Transmitter unit is designed to be mounted near your Breakaway Battery, and the Receiver simply plugs into the Cigarette Lighter Socket in any vehicle.

The Transmitter is 12v, but the Receiver can be used in both 12v and 24v tow vehicles, and is easily moved from one vehicle to another, and because it is NOT Bluetooth, you do not need PAIR the units each time you move from one tow vehicle to another.

This also means, none of the tow vehicles have to be specially wired up, to be able to tow a 2+ tonne caravan in NSW.

Thanks for the reply. I have ordered the caravan and it normally comes with the camec breakaway system. I have noticed that tow-secure do a wireless system similar to what you have mentioned. Is yours the same as this, or a different brand? I should be able to negotiate a different brand if I get in early enough.

Hi again Freeo, mine are Australian made, I designed and manufacture my own Wireless Breakaway Battery Monitors and have done so since 2011.

They are sold under the name of a wholesaler, but just recently I have begun to retail them as well.

My specific brand of Wireless Breakaway Battery Monitors has be officially approved for use in NSW by the Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight.

My units also give more info about the state of the Breakaway Battery than other setups do, which usually simply state the battery is good or failed.

Mine indicates if the battery is fully charged, high but still charging, low but is being charged, or the battery has failed.

Thanks Tim. Where can I get some more info on your unit including pricing? I am keen to get this all sorted before the van details are fully finalised.

Hi Freeo, when I put them up on my web site, they will retail for $265 + Postage.

AULRO members can have them for $225, including postage.

Folks, just a heads up for those of you living outside NSW, you do not need a Breakaway Battery Monitor, it is only a requirement for NSW registered trailers, caravans and horse floats over 2T.
