Disco 4 ZF 8HP auto trans sump

As the guy admits in para 3 of that PDF the oil change he has done is just a basic oil change not the proper full oil change - however I think it is a good way to go if you start early enough, as he highlights - a basic change every year after the first one essentially changes the oil over a period of time.

Unfortunately most of us (well me at least) have left it too long - 120,000km so will need to do a full oil change.

A good document though.

Chris, was the filter changed and was it a full flush of the fluid?

Just a fluid change and new filter.

8 speed steel pan kits are available. Only way to do it properly.

Must use the lifeguard 8 fluid too.

Justin, do you mean "properly" in relation to future ease of filter replacement, similar to the 6 speed situation?
I assume the steel pan provides a separate filter like the 6 speed?

But for both the 6 speed and the 8 speed - why didn't they design the steel sump so that the filter could be replaced without having to actually remove the sump?

Would have seemed logical to me.

Every kg matters when you're building, an injection moulded sump is quicker and easier to make..

And based on service intervals quoted by LR needs the inconvenience once in the original owners lifetime..

By then it's usually out of warranty, and moved on to a second owner.

If this owner does the change at interval again it's done once before moving on to the third owner..

And by then.. it's pretty much done!

Southern LR in Perth couldn't find any. Do you have a supplier for an 8 speed pan conversion?

I am talking about the the steel sump made by ZF not the plastic LR one.

Certainly they didn't look too hard... I suggest you try Rovertech for a start to get the trans service done, and A&B in Dandenong etc can supply the steel pan kits. I have to do one in the new year so I called them and yes they can get in with about 3 days lead time. They no doubt will be doing them as a stock item once these gearbags see some frequent servicing.
