    front runner slimline II

I was having a look at the front runner roof tray which looks pretty good good. Does anyone know if it is possible to fit directly to the factory full length rails? I'm not planning on leaving the tray on all the time and like the look of the silver factory ones on there already.

Also, the 75kg weight limit must be complete lawyer driven BS judging by this photo! That has to be 100kg in jerry cans plus two rims plus whatever the stuff at the front is.

The 75kg limit is Land Rovers. It would be wise to stick to it. You definitely can put more up there, and the roof won't collapse. Its more about the safe handling of the vehicle.

I have a 3/4 Slimline and it comes as a kit with two legs that run the full length of the tray. The legs then bolt to the vehicle.

While it may be possible to bolt the tray to the roof rails I think it would be a stronger fitting to use the legs that come with the tray from Front Runner as a kit.

As Andrew has said, the 75kg is the Land Rover figure found in the owner's manual.

    Legal and safe

Do you know the specifications of these obviously specially prepared vehicles?

Do they have internal roll cages that help support that weight, special suspension to carry it and drivers that can handle that?
You can't compare apples with oranges.

Land Rover HAVE to act responsibly, for themselves and the potentially idiotic public.

    Regards

I was contemplating the same thing but decided to go the full kit. Their old mounting system worked on roof rails . They also have a load bar option. I believe they changed the design to provide a lower profile tray. Contact Front Runner in Qld directly. There pretty helpful nad provide excellent service.

Interesting, their new mounting system with rail is much easier to fit. No drills required(if the factory plastic clips play the game) and no measuring.

Not quite so. The gutter mould still needs to have the front mounting hole drilled when the rail is installed. If you're looking to get the 3/4 length, then you probably don't need to worry about a mount in the gutter mould. (Maybe someone who's fitted the 3/4 can confirm). When I spoke to Daniel from the Expedition Centre in Sydney (great bloke), he warned that the rails are quite flimsy until the tray is fitted. I wouldn't think this system is really designed for tray to be removed on a regular basis. The old system looks far more robust in that regard and again, if going for the 3/4 length, the foot brackets can be fully removed from the factory track slots.

I'll post some photos on another thread I'm currently running once Santa has been in a few days!!

    Hi,

I fitted my FR long about 4 years ago, it has carried excessive loads on some pretty ordinary tracks. Not had a single issue. I would also recommend an anti seize paste ( nickel based ) on all your assembly bolts and torque them up accordingly.

I have a developed a system of also storing things under the roof rack such as long thin 80 watt solar panel, shovel and HF whip antenna.

The top has items distributed, 40 litres are forward of the rear wheels to ensure axle load while towing is kept to a manageable level.

One comment I have, once you start loading up to the limit, you can feel the inurtia when cornering. I have a come to the custom of driving to the conditions and weight of the vehicle and road.

    Have fun.

Can anyone who has the new style mounts please measure from the roof level to the top of the edge rails on the tray?

    Thanks
