Wow, and as a direct result of an ECU tune ?
I doubt any recourse to Roo Systems? I wonder what tune was installed in those that failed and the condition of the engine / turbo(s) pre-ecu tune.

Yup. At least that is my theory, considering I work on literally dozens of these, THE ONLY ONES with issues are remapped by certain Companies to achieve big gains. Maybe their lesser tunes are 'safe, however I'm certainly against the high output ones . The customer apparently got in touch with them, no joy at all from the tuners, who basically had no idea why a manifold warped, studs stretched and broken, and a halved lifespan turbocharger occurred... they kept on about 'factory protections are kept... bollocks say I. Evidence speaks for itself...
Thanks for the info here. I was reading in one of the other threads about the EGR delete, which on my RRS (2011) requires some form of remapping to ensure the error codes don't arise, and to immediately deactivate the valves as soon as the start up diagnostics have worked out everything is running as it should at that second. Clever I thought.
So I contacted Roo Systems who suggested I do the remap at the same time. Always being a little wary of the remap concept (and subsequent potential very big bills to repair my vehicle) I have been searching in the Disco thread for more ideas.
If I am looking to disable the EGR (no downside with that as I see it - harp seals and polar bears aside) are there suggested providers in Brisvegas that will do this (either/both) that might be suitable as alternatives to Roo Systems? I am new to the Land Rover brand (well returning after half a life time) so am keen to learn who and where is trusted by forum members here, as that is usually a pretty good guide in my experience of such forums.
Maybe try Pete at Bell Auto Services. They offer the remaps seperate from EGR disabling. E.g. RRS 2.7L EGR Deactivation Patch File (NOT ADVISED FOR ROAD USE) – BAS Remaps, Powering the Landrover tuning world!
I've got the Roo Systems towing and Economy tune in my D4 for the last 20,000k odd, nice and safe, no issues, no lag at take off and much better torque spread. Speak to them and others, I did a lot of research before settling on Roo, I'm very happy with my tune. Would love to get the 409SS 3" exhaust upgrade too....
Cheers Eric. I contacted Autocode as Justin suggested. Pricing etc.. seems quite good. Only downside for me is the need to take out the ECU and send it away to WA. One of those times I wished I lived over in the west...
I will need to work out some plan of attack (if I go that way) to do without the car for a week or so while the ECU is fettled with. Alternative of Roo Systems is much more convenient as they are in Brissy, so easy peasy that one.
Thanks for the feedback on your D4 with the Roo Systems tune - good to know, and probably what I may end up going with (if I do anything except EGR) considering it all started with looking at getting rid of the EGR setup. [biggrin]
But, hey, who can resist the temptation of more power and torque....?
With the exhaust upgrade, do you need to re-tune? And does it create much more noise? A mate of mine went the 3 inch exhaust upgrade on his 100 series TD, and it now sounds like some boy racer in an old VN Commodore with a hole in the exhaust. Terrible! I'd hate to do that to the refined magic carpet ride that is my RRS.
