Tent, camper or four walls??
Inskip or Harvey bag barge??
Ok... so where to post this thread....????
Heading to Fraser 7th-14th April in the D4 2.7 from Sydney.. Aux battery installed, Fridge on order, Recovery kit upgraded... What am i missing...
As an add on.. any suggestions re an itinerary? looking to arrive on the Island Sat evening and leave Friday morning.. so what to do in-between... nothing planned, "suck it and see" sort of trip, but interested in any "must do's"... My first trip to Fraser and going as a single car, unless anyone wants to meet up, so open to thoughts, comments, suggestions, words of advice... Hey what about an Aulro road trip?
Tent, camper or four walls??
Inskip or Harvey bag barge??
First point is arrival time....6pm high is probably not the best time to be arriving.
The tides really control your movements....if your camping than I would pick two zones (middle than top or the other way round)

I didn't see air compressor listed....
You WILL need to drop your pressures.. so a way to put them back up is rather handy.
Fantastic place Fraser.... you will love it.
p.s..... don't forget to turn off DSC every time you get in the car in the sand....

We stayed at Waddy Point (top) campsite. We have kids and knowing we were camping within a fenced area gave great peace of mind. Great spot, the drive up there gets rid of many. Drop pressure, drop pressure , drop pressure. I dropped my pressure to 20psi, then got bogged in ngala rocks, dropped further to 16psi and drove straight out,......valuable lesson!
Loads of day trips, there are only a few places where the tide will beat you.
Getting off the Ferry(have to take inland track rather than beach) and also from Waddy up to lighthouse. Apart from that most places allow passage even at high tide(although the fuel consumption on the soft increases fuel flow x2-3 times).
Central station/Lake Mackenzie and ELI Creek. In the evening when all the mob have left you can get your fresh water from ELI. I only realised this when one of the tour companies came down after sunset and filled canteens. Once the mob stop ****ing in it , it's as pure as the proverbial!
Watch out for the Ranger at Waddy. A group of young blokes beside us were fined for not adequately controlling their rubbish.
Oooh and watch out for swimming on the Western side. There were three irikanji stings within two weeks after we left(and yes we had been wading in the very same spot!).
Oh, don't forget to put vehicle in gear with Handbrake on when on barge!!

Champagne pools on the east beach is a great place for a swim, as is Eli Creek. Take some inflatable mats and float down Eli.
Recovery tracks maybe if your on your own? Puncture repair kit. Sturdy flat board to act as a jack base in case you need to change a wheel in the sand.
I'd take you up on your offer to tag along as the family and I together with some friends were going to do Fraser the same time but we've changed our plans as our friends were put off by the possibility of it being really busy due to the Qld school holidays and the 14th being Good Friday. I'd be interested to hear how you go.
