The extra little bit of width seems to protect the rims that little better.
I'd agree with Chuck that's been my experience to date with the Nitto TG GP2. So far very pleased with them. Same size 265/50 R20

I'm glad I found this thread as I need to replace two Pirelli Scorpion Zero's as they didn't fair well on the northern Flinders "roads" on our trip in March.
I tried to do the right thing by enlisting the help of a local place to track two down for me, only to be told that they Pirelli have stopped making them.. has anyone else heard this? I'm not keen on the Verde all season or similar as we often to ad-hoc off road trips and need something that can deal with the territories finest.
After reading this thread I might ask about the Nitto's.
Well after the short run I've had on them so far, I'm happy. I haven't been up the bush propped yet, as in the High Country, but they performed well on our SA Googs Tk tour. The only thing I found I didn't really like was the "floating effect", when out on a really wet dirt road. Having said that, I think most cars experienced the same thing.
So the Nitto's are $100 cheaper, but I have to drive to Darwin to get them.
People have said that they aren't that great in the wet, is this something that runs in over time or are they average the whole time. Driving in the wet season is often challenging without having to fight a car, but I have found with MT's that with a bit of dry season driving it helps get a groove driving in the wet isn't as big a problem.
What is the googs track surface like? Rocky? Tracks around here go from sand to rocks and shale to rivers/mud and what ever else you want to imagine.
Googs is a sand based track, some liken it to the Simpson, lots of sand hills to negotiate and very rough (wombat holes going up the dunes),, but the gravel road was the Tarcoola-Glendambo Rd.
This road was a fine gravel, which when wet they close. They let us out of Kingoonya, and then closed the road whilst we were on it. So skating around a little I would think would be the norm for all cars in these conditions, and driving to the conditions is the way to go of course.
Depending on how I go with them up in the HC will depend on whether I get these again, or look for something more aggressive, otherwise I'll stick with these probably.

I finally got a tyre today. Had to settle for a 265/50 R20 in a Maxxis AT700. And because the tyre people in Katherine are stuck in the 90's, I had to source it from Darwin.
The next tyres I'm getting will be the Nitto trail grabbers, $375 fitted in Darwin or $235 + frieght + fitment from Tempe tyres.
Lesson from this, in Katherine there are three tyre places, one thinks they don't do a 19 or 20" off road tyre and I must be mixed up, one doesn't ring you back and the other hasn't heard of any other brands other than BF Goodrich/Cooper's/HiFly..
