    Carbon Clean?

    I have searched and cant find anything on this topic - seems I did read something before?

    Anyway - I came across a video promoting the merits of a 'carbon clean'. I am not sure of the process or if its a real process (other than applying plenty of right boot while holding gears up manually)?
    So just throwing it out there as to weather its worth while - its a specialist job or there is a DYI process with the right gear/treatment?

    FYG - had since new, 2011 3.0 SDV6 HSE 210,000 kms - almost faultless driving. Full service etc - Turbo drain fixed early - timing belts done, auto pan changed and flushed etc. little bit of black smoke on heavy to full noise (night with lights behind shows a bit more than I would like)

    Cheers.

    I went through this process on a petrol MINI Cooper S - made a huge difference. In that case, the exhaust gasses being recirculated caused the buildup. Earlier models were not direct injected (instead, injecting the fuel further up the intake) and so were able to 'self clean' somewhat.
    Would be interested to hear the responses to this question, as my D4 had it's turbo drain fixed relatively late (104k km). Drives like a champ though, so if it does need doing, it isn't showing much sign of it!

    I've used a product called Revive on the tdv8 at about 240,000km. It sounded a little smoother, quieter and less black smoke on acceleration.

    There are a few brands of induction cleaner around.

    To clean carbon deposits I usually operate engine until normal oil pressure and operating temperature are achieved then find a nice long hill and fang it, 6000 rpm will usually do it.

    Re-visiting this one - has anybody on here used the mobile carbon clean guys advertising on farcebook?

    * Mobile Service * We Come to You * $180... - 360 Carbon Clean Perth | Facebook

    Look interesting, price is right, and there are one or two land rovers in their review list.

    Is the 'hydroxy' process a real one? or is this just a bunch of snake oil?

    Should add - the mini in my previous post was cleaned 'manually'...

    I used that guy on my disco TDV6.

    I found the process very worth while. I fitted a chip and wasnt able to use it above a certain setting, it would throw engine codes. I had that clean done with diesel additive and afterwards the car seemed smoother and I could run my chip on any setting no engine codes.

    Id blank the egr too then clean
