Dealer is saying body off and probably replace turbo as the turbo and actuator is one unit??
I'm getting the "Restricted performance" message intermittently but mainly when towing. Seems to come on when coming over a hill, so when coming off load.
Dealer has checked vacuum lines and electrical connections.
Any advice or ideas on what else to check or do prior to replacing entire turbo?
(Concerned dealer mentality is just to replace units)
Thanks in advance for your advice or moral support!
We had the same thing with the D3. Left it with the spanner twirler, turned out to be the MAF sensor needed cleaning.

    Primary turbo actuator fault

    Thanks again.
Secondary turbo actuator shut off lubricated and worked, had a good look over the vacuum hoses, but no obvious leaks.
    Unfortunately the problem persists
With Vac hoses I think this would be an issue for the 2ndary turbo shut off valve opening on acceleration, which I don't have. My restricted performance comes up post mild acceleration when coasting - when cresting a hill. Failure to close of 2ndary turbo shut off valve could make sense in this scenario, however the spring shut on the valve is quite strong, but not impossible to jam/stick.
I'm struggling to understand an intermittent issue with the primary turbo actuator vane, as BobD said it's used all the time, but anything is possible.
I really need the code reader cause on top of the turbo issue I've very recently developed a judder, which I suspect may be bad fuel... too coincidental, occurring since refuelling at a remote servo....

In the interim, the fault reading and clearing capability of the iiD tool is not VIN locked.
So if you can find someone with one near you, the faults could be read etc even before getting your own.

I'm in Duncraig and have an IIDTool I'm happy to take read for you. Secondary turbo issues have very specific faults (and a long list of them typically). Anyhow, until we have the actual list of faults, it's hard to do much more.

I also have one if you can get to Forrestfield. You don't say where you are so difficult to know who is best placed to help.

I'd also put through a dose of diesel induction cleaner. I've used Revive, but Moly, Penrite and other brands.

    Exhaust the cheap options 1st.
