The "more power, better throttle response" line seems to sell lots of tune "answers" & it's simply not possible to evaluate them without back to back checks when a motor has done lots of work & is torn down. Hell, even factory motors last different times depending on how the user looks after it.
I found that the difference in price from a TDV6 and a SDV6 (secondhand vehicle market) made the decision simple, buy the SDV6.

Agree with Squiggle - though the TDV6 is by no means a poor performer either, the SDV6 is just magnificent.

Understand why people might want to fiddle with the engine performance (more power = better mentality, plus promises of fuel efficiency), but I'm in the same camp as others: stock rocks. For these cars, I think money is better spent on a good 2-way, extra fuel/water tanks, spare/better tyres, 18" rims etc. I haven't yet had a situation where I'm at full throttle and wishing I had a bit more poke...

Having said all that, i'm intrigued by the EGR shut off available via remapping - especially as this seems to only have positive reviews regarding engine life and reduction in 'gunk' buildup at the intake/throttle. By all accounts the EGR exists only to satisfy a government regulation, rather than to provide the driver/vehicle any benefit.

    I have a D3, you can't get a SDV6 or 3.0 TDV6...

    slightly off topic..

I recently saw a D4 in Avalon NSW which had an exhaust upgrade which to me sounded like a great balance between sounding tough but without being loud or overbearing.

I'd be interested in same, like many others I don't tow or find myself lacking power even when offroad so I don't need a re-tune but does anyone else have an upgraded sounding exhaust, if so who makes them?? price etc

My Review & Experiences of Bluespark Pro + Boost Tuning Chip

    Luke - I have a customised exhaust...

Nice little note and a ButtDyno says slightly (very slightly) improved throttle response.
Keep in mind that the vehicle systems will prevent rapid spool up to maintain traction...

I did see an ever so slight fuel saving - not enough to recover costs for about 5 years My Review & Experiences of Bluespark Pro + Boost Tuning Chip

Is it worth it? Not really... but it sounds nice My Review & Experiences of Bluespark Pro + Boost Tuning Chip

I have heard similar feedback regarding exhaust upgrades

What about intercooler upgrades are they worthwhile

Anything that cools the charge air will have a benefit.

Add to that any tuning (regardless of method) and the reduction to EGTs will help longevity.

In the same way the vehicle feels "zippier" on a cool, dense air day, a more efficient Cooler will enhance performance and keep EGT lower.

Will this gain be significant on a 2.7? I'm not sure - I have no data to back up any statement.

I do hear from UK tuners that it does have an improvement. And there is 2 versions for 2.7.

A replacement unit and a larger unit.
The former fits in std position, the latter fits in front of the Condenser, Radiator etc.

Personally I will be upgrading at some stage but not chasing it as a priority. I don't tow on days over 40c at the moment out of mechanical sympathy My Review & Experiences of Bluespark Pro + Boost Tuning Chip

I don't know. It was there so I have left it alone. No obvious problems so far. EGT seems to work, exhaust not black or obvious overfuelling.
The son has a chip on his Hilux and it does blow black smoke.

I have an exhaust upgrade also, it single pipe from the centre muffler back, I didn't find any difference from standard, but the first upgrade was a slightly larger twin back from the centre muffler, that did make a difference, I think when we get back from our trip I'll go back to the twin again with the larger pipe or find someone that knows exhaust better than the guy we used.

It has a slightly deeper note, something Bruce Davis noticed when he did our ECU upgrade
    Cheers Baz.
