squeak .. squeak .. squeek infuriating wheel noise

ok, for the record this is driving me crazy

took the D4 to my mechanic Wilf Chambers and of course its intermittent and he couldn't diagnose it.

what is happening, at low speeds, half-lock (right) and when the vehicle is cold, there's a persistent, loud and annoying squeak .. squeak .. squeek coming from the front left wheel.

it doesn't go away when brakes are applied
it doesn't happen when i'm going straight or turning left

    any idea??

Yep I had exactly the same thing. Timing corresponded after some off road work too. There is a metal shield on the backside of the brake rotor. In my case it was rubbing (I initially thought it was the caliper rubbing the Compomotives). Just give it a bit of a wiggle and maybe push it in and should clear it up. If you've been off-road might be some mud or gunge in there too. I've had this twice and both times fixed it. My mechanic said I did exactly what he would have so give it a go. Hope it helps.

That's what it looks like the metal disc just to the right of the rotor

If you'd bought a Defender you wouldn't be able to hear the squeaks over the rattles...

I had a similar problem after going for a drive on dirt road. Found out I picked up little stones and they were stuck between the rotor and heat shield and only queek when turning.
I Just pull/push the shield away from the rotor and the they fell out and solve the problem.

Hopefully you problem is as easy to solve.

Ditto. It's my front right that picks up crud as soon as we go near a gravel road. Drives me nuts.

Did you manage to find the source of the problem? What fixed it?

went away by itself. most likely some crud in between the rotor and the rotor shield I reckon.

I ran a hacksaw blade up in between (carefully) and could feel nothing ..
