What 18" highway biased A/T is popular at present?

I forgot to add that a mate has just upgraded from old type to new and reports on - road is slightly better. He hasn't tried proper off - road as yet but was very happy with them on fast gravel, etc. At least as good as the older ones when new. Quiet and grippy.

I'm still happy with the Mickey Thompson STZ's (around 80,000 km's now and still plenty of life in them) and the young bloke is also happy with them on his Amarok. I will eventually replace mine with the same. [wink11]

My work ute has recently had a set of Toyo Open Country AT's fitted - they are also a good ride and very quiet on the bitumen.

A set of these in 275/55R20 have been at the top of my list for my next set, having had the G012s (LT version) on the D4 and totally sick of the noise from the current BFG KO2. I look forward to your reports.

Hi Graeme, yes I will report on how I find the Yokohama's, I always remember back when first looking at D3's many years ago I test drove one with a set of just about worn out Yokohama's on it and it still handled really well and the tyres ran silent. So this time around finally I decided to try a set.

We have the Hankook Dynapro ATMs in 265/60/18 at the moment, seem like a great wearing tyre so far, good grip in wet and dry, great on gravel also, we are happy with them Terry.

Replaced the D697s for the same reason as your's, they didn't last as long as I expected they would, very disappointing.

I had a Pajero for work running 697s and apart from the Paj thing of chewing the insides of the rears on any tyre they did well - about 60000 of unkind driving.
The D4 is give or take 400kg heavier than the Paj though and I do wonder whether any tyre is going to last as long as one would hope on such a heavy vehicle.

Yep I agree the weight of the D4 is partly to blame, but around 40 to 45,000ks is not good, our previous Khumos lasted 55,000ks with plenty of tread left, we would have gone with the Khumos again but they discontinued the KL78s and replaced them with the AT51s.

It's a good point too about what people define as worn out for all terrains. I too find myself replacing them well before they're actually unroadworthy.

Hi Baz, I quite like Hankook tyres, when we were sponsored by Ssangyong we had a Rexton which came with Hankooks and they lasted nearly 90,000 k's, bloody amazing.

I had the Yokohama's fitted today so have driven the 100ks home, like all tyres when new they are as quite as a church mouse, time will tell how they hold up but going from worn and torn KM2's to new Yoko's made for a very pleasant smooth drive home.
