Thanks for that, I'll shoot him a PM. I'm going to check of the basics first like brake light bulbs and brake switch and go from there. I'll recheck my fault codes tonight and see if any new codes have appeared.

Found an interesting thread on disco3:
DISCO3.CO.UK - View topic - My Disco cut out whilst driving and won't start?!
Theres some similarities to the issue Im currently having. When mine faults it dosent cut the engine if its running, but the hazards come on and I hear the doors unlocking. If the cars off and this fault is active then the hazards still come on and the engine wont start.
One thing I failed to mention earlier as I didnt think it was related but after reading that thread it may be as I was seeing park brake faults flashing up on the dash every now and again so I guess the logical thing would be to add that to the list of areas to check out. Might be difficult as I have a long range tank installed which may need to be removed to access
Ok time for an update and hopefully some more help from you guys. Sparky has had a look and didn't have the suitable tools to remove the pin from the connector plug. So he's then joined the wires into a seperate plug (deutsch connector so no worries with the quality of the connector). All seemed good for on day however it had a major dummy spit with my wife driving and I recorded the following fault codes:
When that faulted I decided to have a look at what the sparky had done (as Im in the middle of my work swing and all was good at first I originally decided to just wait until my days off). So as mentioned above all looked ok apart from the connector with the previous faulty wiring was not in the original spot so I mounted it back in place. Took it for a 30km drive and no worries. All was then good again until tonight when it again faulted. Fault codes from this time:Code:Audio System

Now the Vehicle dynamic and instrument cluster lost communication with each other fault is understandable since they are at opposite ends of the can bus network. Whats interested me is the lost communication between the instrument cluster and the transmission and transfer case. Looking at the can bus wiring diagram they join together and then run through the faulty connector, to the engine ECU, through the park brake module and then to the instrument cluster. So I've gotten a 60ohm resistance reading at the OBDII port of the HS can (120ohm for an open circuit - which works when I disconnect the plugs). With my wife watching the multimeter I've wiggles and jiggled all the wiring around the connectors between the instrument cluster and transfer/transmission common. No change to the ohms reading so it seems as though Im not affecting any of the circuits.Code:Body Control

So if its purely a can bus issue then I guess theres also the possibility that Im having an issue with the park brake module as all the comms need to go through it. Thoughts?
I also got thinking about some of the basic stuff - brake light bulbs - both not working (wasn't really an issue as I've got a kaymar bar thats got brake lights) So I've swapped the bottom tail lights for the top ones and now the brake lights run as you'd normally expect. I'll monitor and see if the fault comes back.
Alternator and battery. Battery was replaced earlier this year after the last one just died overnight. Checked the alternator output and Im getting 14.5V after startup, however after reading about checking the AC volts I've done a quick check at the battery and Im getting between 0.015 and 0.03V AC. Normal or too much?
Sorry about the long post, but I need to post up all the information to give you guys to best idea of whats happening and I'm not real keen on just throwing parts at it until it starts working again.
Brake / tailights, brake switch would've been the first thing to check /replace , so are all the rear lights working now?
Rear lights are all working as they should, however thats not the issue as fault is still coming up.
Hi Shane, and I don't know if this is relevant to your problem but a good few years back there was a fairly common problem, covered both here and on the UK site, water was getting into that wire loom and I think, was causing similar problems.
I don't want to send you on a wild goose but it may give you some answers, but, as above, it was covered a good few years back!
Thanks Tim, I think Im already on a wild goose chase so one more thing to check isnt going to make a world of difference yet[thumbsupbig]
Hitting the cheap options first so a brake light switch as has been ordered.
One other suggestion, before you start handing out money for anything, it may be a loose earth between the block and the chassis and while the block end is easy to check, but the chassis end is hidden under the plastic wheel cal.
The Chassis end is a known potential problem on the D3, so this may be the cause.
Again, just one more suggestion. ( just to keep you running round in circles )
Thanks for that info Tim. More to add to the list to check when Im on days off[bighmmm]
Little bit more of a follow up. Disco faulted for me last night, and previously when its done this with me driving I havent had any fault messages on the dash, but this time I got park brake fault displayed. Im getting this fault logged for the park brake module:
Leads me back to my original thinking that the fault is originating from the park brake moduleCode:• C1A55-64 (A8) Ignition switch input circuit - Algorithm based failure - signal plausibility failure
:soapbox:Bit peeved right now. Was digging around my above posted fault so I thought I'd force the park brake faults by pulling the fuses, which worked a charm and produced that fault code. Didnt produce all the rest of the faults however so its taken me back to a connector fault - but as its a fault thats triggering the park brake and canbus at the same time it has to be somewhere that is common between the two. So decided to pull the plug at the left rear wheel and give it a good clean out, but putting it back together I was a little heavy handed and managed to break all the retaining pins on the connector plug. So now I need to source a replacement plug, remove and replace all the pins from the old plug. Oh and that one plug renders the car undrivable. Going to take weeks to sort out at this rate........I kinda feel like burning it to the ground right now
