Whilst I couldn't find any bad wiring connections or connectors, from the following codes I was able to do some fault replication by disconnecting the wiring (although it was never a perfect replication of the fault exactly I could trigger most of these faults and get similar symptoms):
    Audio System
    • U0010-87 (28) Medium speed CAN communication bus - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message
    ( on 30-06-2015 06:52:34 at 255734 km )

From my emails with Pat from Gap diagnostic he picked up fairly early from the code from the instrument cluster U0010-88 medium speed can bus fault code that there may be a fault with the cluster can bus module. Originally when I looked at all the above faults I was convinced that the damaged can bus wiring I found was going to be the issue as all those modules that lost communication with each other would have been sending signals through that section. When that repair failed to fix it I was starting to think that maybe the park brake module had failed as that is also smack bang in the middle of the can bus wiring so the modules would lose communication with each other. But one of the fellas on the UK disco 3 forum made a comment that I took a step back to think about - "the patient is sick and can't diagnose itself". That set me back on the right direction as the fault codes don't always literally spell out the issue (I've had a little experience with cummins fault codes so that helped). With the thoughts from Gap, some reading of others with a similar fault and all the modules logging faults with the instrument cluster and all the real cheap things to check out of the way I figured I'd take the stab at the instrument cluster as the issue. So far I was right (although theres aways a chance that I'll be proven wrong)

Shane - just back-tracking a bit... your D3 was working fine before the driver's side window smashed?

Have you taken the driver's side door card off and checked the canbus wiring to the door ECUs? IIRC, the back of the window switch has one, and there is another one in there. I'm wondering if glass has cut wires and shorting them out?

    Good luck,
    Rob

I thought something along those line originally too. However I haven't found any reference in the wiring diagrams to canbus wiring into the doors

I'm now onto my second IP cluster replacement for customers D4, the big list of can bus faults has lead me to replacing them.
Also on a D4 the main harness plug behind the rear passenger side wheel is another big issue, having to clean and put some conductive grease on the pins, then ensuring the plug is connected back and latched without forcing it.

For what it's worth you can use a used IP cluster, I've built up a collection of used ones, the hardest part is finding them in KMs as most are miles per hr.
takes 2 hrs either side to remove enough of the dash and about an hr to transfer the data to the replacement IP cluster.
    Regards
    Daz
