If your not towing is it possible to mount a spare on a heavy grade/modified push bike carrier?

I've been busy designing and building my own bodge up shelving and fridge area and tried to make it so that the spare wheel winder was still accessible. Damn stupid thing! Why couldn't they also give it a hexagon that a socket would fit on!!! Bloody LR designers......
Anyway I ordered a Rijidig RWC and as soon as it arrived I fitted it. Took somewhat longer than Murray estimates but I put that down to my lack of practice...
Excellent bit of kit as I know from having one of his on my Defender.
Makes access so much easier than that damn thing LR give us GRRRR!

Or you could fit a "modified" winder accessable from underneath the vehicle?

"Or you could fit a "modified" winder accessable from underneath the vehicle? " Yes you could do that or even electrify using a small motor the existing method. But if in a bad situation, rocky ground, deep in mud or even on stinking hot bitumen, I think getting the spare off is easier from the back than underneath.
    Cheers.

I guess I come back to 'how often do I take off my spare?' About once a year at most if I'm unlucky. While it's a bit poo where it is, it's not like it's a weekly occurrence (for me at least) to take out the spare, so for the odd occasion it can remain there. If I needed (rather than wanted) additional fuel capacity beyond a jerry on the camper then maybe it would be more important.
I guess you have to weigh up the cost and make the call.

I think RWC is the way to go.
