Discovery 4 bullbar and winch recommendations

I know this has probably been done but I couldn't find much using the forum search...

We are looking at adding a bullbar + winch to our 2016 Disco and was after some recommendations. Our main use will be touring and towing a medium size van(2.5t), some offroad but nothing extreme.

From what I have read, steel although heavier gives better protection, but not sure what brands are good value for money. Oh and it has to look good

It will need to support CB aerial and spotlights, and be compatible with the vechiles front sensors, safety gear etc

The winch I have no idea, we have had 4wds all our lives but have never had a winch, I like the idea that it is there if you need it. The synthetic rope appeals to me in regards to weight and safety.

We have planned on doing a 4wd course that includes winching.

Any ideas of expect cost would also be great.

    Cheers,

    John & Melissa

For what it's worth Guss considering I haven't yet put one on my D4, I like both the ARB and OL bars. But actually not the latest OL bar as it looks a bit weird (sissy actually but others may differ in their opinion.....but I won't worry about that ) but the earlier model.
I'll be going for something winch compatible as well even though I've never yet had a winch on the 6 vehicles (5 Landies 1 Prado) I've had so far.

    Hi Guss,
I wasn't interested in the look, just the functionality. Back in April, the new ARB bar was on back order and the older black one was out of stock, so I bought an Opposite Lock bar and their VRS 9500lb winch (which came with wire rope and synthetic rope). FYI I won't have a 4WD without a winch. I purchased it from OL in Nunawading Victoria where the staff are very knowledgeable about D4s. This was just as well because I fitted it myself and the instructions are atrocious, so I needed to check a few things with them as I went along.
PM me if you plan on fitting it as there are a few traps for young players!
If you are reasonably handy and happy to strip looms and solder wires together, you can readily re-install the front sensors to the OL bar and rig up the fog lamps (you can't use the existing D4 ones). OL allows four hours (I think) to fit the bar and winch. I took many days! But I'm a bit particular about these things and would rather cop the learning curve and do it myself. Also, I was happy to re-position and lengthen looms etc.

I went for the new ARB Summit bar, color coded, I'm happy with look.
I also fitted a Runva 11XP winch which comes highly recommended by many on this forum.
I went for Fyrlyt Driving Lights which again have high praise on forum.
ARB fitted bar, including fog lights.
I fitted driving lights and winch, bar needs to come off to fit winch.
Bar has holes for lights and mounts for ariel etc.
    Good luck

The 5 year warranty on motor and gearbox with a built to IPF67 standard is good.
Used in training and exceptionally capable.

One of the best parts is that it only weighs 23.5kg fitted.

    Opposite lock

I have an opposite lock bar, the reason I chose it over an ARB, is the extra tabs on the top and the in fill under the lights. I can access the winch without taking the bar off.

For a very recent look at some of the winches available in Australia, get the latest copy of 4X4 Australia as they have just done a test on a few and there are some interesteing results! Don't be fooled by price or supplier.

I have an OL bar with a Tigers11 winch. Haven't need to use the winch other than practise but it's still going after 2 years so not much to offer to you there. I like the bar as it fits close to the body work and has a good looking black finish. Don't know what the colour coded bars look like.
