D4 Engine replacement dilemma?
Hi all
Can anyone help me out or had a similar problem?
I've been told the knocking sound comming from my 2010, 2.7td V6 is due to the crankshaft shell bearings failing only 192k km on the clock.
Has any one else had this same problem?
What is the best fix?
I'm being told we need to replace the motor?
How much is a new motor?
Any recommendations on independents to do the job, or that have an alternative, as the local LR dealer (south australia) are quoting 17k for a second hand motor installed with only 3mnths warranty.
Sorry but I'm only new here,so maybe there is a thread that covers this?
Or am I the only unlucky one this has happened to?
Pretty disappointed I must say, considering my D1 diesel has 394k on it and touch wood, still going strong.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers

Geez,thats no good.
Have you had the vehicle from new, does it have full service records, done at dealer?
If so, you may have some come back on JLR.
If not, what area are you in?
I ask this so others can advise of a good indie in your area.
First step find a good Indie and get another opinion, then you know for sure what is wrong.
Failure of the 2.7 in the D3 was not uncommon, but in the D4 pretty rare as it was modified from the D3.
Then move on,many have fitted a Territory engine.

I had anew engine in my D3 in Adelaide and it was put in by an independent. The guys at sovereign motors did it not far from the cbd. They were excellent although engine was sourced second hand from Triumph and was unlucky this had issues to be sorted so took longer. Fingers crossed Land Rover will come and sort you out or offer a deal for a new motor. $17k installed for a new one doesn't actually sound that bad believe it or not. :-(.

Although before you do anything I would take it to sovereign for a second opinion. Talk to Geoff who owns the place and has worked on LR for a long long time.
