another bloody EPB problem! brakes frozen on and need to get towed!

The whole unit was replaced. I know this because the old unit including the cables was on the floor.

Seems others have thought of cutting the cables!
Not so absurd after all!

If you are stuck in the middle of no-where with no chance of rescue and the release cable doesnt work and all else fails, lets not even
entertain the idea!

You usually get some warning of impending fatal failure, at which point you don't use it again until it is fixed if you are like me. However, if it fills up with water it is a different story. It would work one minute and then fail with no warning. Mine was a whole new unit including cables when mine started squealing.

Now when I pull into the garage engine idling, EPB on, I can hear a distinctive rapid clicking / ticking noise from the right rear wheel area

I’m afraid this bloody thing is going to strand me this weekend when I go camping ....

Take it back and get it fixed properly before the weekend [thumbsupbig]

Yes the final adjustment is key. If done as per Bodsy's Brake Bible it will be sweet. I have seen great variation in the 'correct' techniques

2 answers I guess

1. why would I not want to use something that has been standard safety-feature on every production car since ... i don't know, forever?
2. (a less flippant response, sorry!) - because I'd prefer the weight of the car to be on the park brake vs. the gearbox when parked on even slight slopes.

so I took the Disco back to the mechanic, to try and diagnose the 'clicking' noise coming from the rear axle when idling with the EPB on.

guess what happened? yes, you guessed it - NOTHING. the bloody thing made a liar out of me .... again.

in my humble opinion this feels like an intermittent electrical signal being sent to the EPB module.

so last night I replaced the switch assembly with an OEM unit from England ($120 ouch!). This required me to remove the lower centre console and took a bit of fiddling but got it done.

now lets see. the clicking noise hasn't reappeared but again this may be intermittent. what I did notice is that the old switch doesn't have any "feel" to it whereas the new unit has a clear detent in its action where it engages.
