I still have the screws but dream of a fancier solution. The winch is for insurance, and I haven't had to use it in anger in a year. So screws are fine.

I thought of using quarter turns for quick release, or a hinge arrangement.

You can get an expensive hinge [emoji41] made for the purpose.

Just wondering how do you access the clutch to freespool the winch if you need to.

Had a winch on my D2 & only used it twice in 10 years so based on that, the screws will suffice for now. Or maybe a bit of piano hinge & a couple of magnets....

I bought a number plate flip hinge off ebay. Yes you could say its only 4 screws and I considered that, but when you are stuck its just another thing to have to do and another tool you need to carry every time you go out 4wding. Will post up pick of mine when its light tomorrow.

I'm thinking the same, but on my last 2 rovers with winches Murphy's law told me that the winch "needed to be used... and NOW! ... no time to look for that screwdriver".
I'm doing my D3 soon so I'm interested in a way of getting that number plate right out of the way and quickly. Slide in bracket perhaps??

Just sticker the license plate to the side and remove the cover altogether?

Interested in this answer too. Does one have to electrically wind it out? Really like this option over a bar simply to retain the look.

I can get my fingers under the clutch through the slot in the bumper. Lift slightly & turn. This winch has a knurled knob (haha) rather than a lever. Discovered today I can't get my hand in with the number plate in place.
