Thread: Cryptic code - MAP sensor failure?

It usually means the MAP sensor value went out of range. I get it on my V8 as well, replacing the MAP sensor made no difference (actually it went away for 6 weeks after changing the sensor and then returned). In my case I have logged the MAP sensor values and have seen no change when the error occurs so I'm thinking the error may be incorrectly labelled.
My latest suspicion for my car is that it is something to do with the evaporative emissions system as the error usually occurs a few minutes after starting and this is when the evaporative emissions systems purges the canister.

Its only happened to me recently and both times when i was off roading (engine hot, not much cool air gettjng into the engine bay)

Is this a V8 only thing?

My son's D3 V8 gets an orange engine light every now and then which doesn't affect the car at all. The GAP tool says it is a problem with the evaporative emissions system purging but it only happens once every few months and usually when 4WDing. In fact, it happened yesterday while he was playing in the Lancelin sand dunes with his mates and I had to reset it with my GAP IID. I wonder if it is the same thing but the error name is different on the D4?
