I have to say that IMHO that is damage from a sharp stick which has not fully penetrated the tyre. It doesn't look like a crack to me.
Did you have any go right through? It is always a danger in desert areas.

Hi Philip and Russ, thanks for your responses. No nothing went right through (i.e i didn't get a puncture) but I did find a small stone fully hidden and embedded right inside one of these cuts. I am sure the damage is from stones etc. As I mentioned earlier, there are a few of these cuts or what I originally called cracks, and I was only concerned because they are situated between the tread blocks. They are on average about 3mm to 4mm deep. For me, as a novice and not knowing how much rubber/protection was left between the bottom of the cuts and the inner belts etc of the tyre was what concerned me. So all I really was asking is are they safe to drive on?Quote:

My 697s have done 40k and 5mm remaining. 20k of that was SA, NT and QLD dirt and close to GVM. Also have same small cracks between tread but seem only cosmetic in effect. Very happy with them.
I guess the main danger is that the cuts have exposed the steel belts and water will get in and rust will start and eventually may cause delamination.Quote:

I would get some super glue or epoxy and fill the cracks /cuts to seal them. I think maybe thick super glue would be my pick.

I'm looking at 265/60R18 BFG KO2's for my D4. I am considering one for the under slung spare as well. Does anyone know if this tyre will fit ok under there? From the BF site the diameter is 775mm but I can't find any info on what the max dimensions are under there. Cheers, Fiss

Most people go up to 265 60 18s even for road tyres. There's a lot more choices available for a fraction of the price.Quote:
