I've got the Maxxis on my D4. They've been excellent so far, including a 10,000km trip from Perth through the GRR and back. I bought 6 of them for about $275 each inc fitting and balancing which I thought was good value. They're a little noisier than the standard 19s but not so much that I've bothered to swap them out since we got back in August. Seem to be pretty hard wearing too. I'm guessing I'll get 50,000km out of them, with a rotation every 10,000km.

    18" Tyre Sizes

Looking at purchasing the new 18' Tuffant wheels and need ATR tyres to suit:
    - was looking at Nitto Terra Grappler G2's with costs and reasonable reviews. But was wondering if anyone had fitted the 285/60/18 Cooper Zeons and had any issues with rubbing?
    - if i increase profile to say 265, is it easy to adjust speedo to suit? (Was looking purchasing the iiD tool as well as per recommendations)
Any advice welcome. Early in build of my D4 but looking forward to toughening it up...next is rock sliders.

I adjusted the tyre radius with my IID tool on my D3. Speedo is now spot on compared to GPS speed

I've been using the 19" Cooper Zeon LTZ's since I bought my D4 (about 5 years now, had roughly 2 sets over about 120k kms). Been to the tip of Cape York, Fraser Island, driven from Qld to WA (moved), plus trips to Karijini, Exmouth etc... mostly bitumen, some dirt, sand etc. 1 flat tyre in all that time!
I think they're pretty good - and I'm sure others will disagree (there are many threads on tyres in here!)...

IMHO - 19" tyres obviously aren't ideal for offroading - so tyre pressure and placement (where you point them) are crucial!!

My 2c - the Coopers are worth the money, and I'll keep using them.

Actually maybe I wont be able to get the iiD tool - didnt realise how much more they were from the basic diagnostic type device. Will have to save up...

Wondering about the 285 tyre width on the Tuffant rims? Anyone tried?

We punctured a Cooper 255/55R19 in Karijini as well - twice. Rear right tyre. First one was in the tread, put a plug in it at camp and all seemed ok. The next one was the same tyre, through the sidewall. When the tyre was off the rim, the first puncture through the tread had actually severed one of the steel cords.... the sidewall was a gash, instant deflation.

Put the spare on and headed to Newman. East Pilbara Tyre Service had two 255/55/R19s (Hankook H/T) in stock. The service was great.

Options as I see it in 19":

    - Cooper Zeon LTZ 111H
    - Wrangler Duratracv (111S or 111Q rating, vast price diff btw though!)
    - Hankook Dynapro 111H
    - Atturo Trailblades 111S

Any advice? I'm in the market for 5 off - Cooper Zeons have lasted about 70,000km and so far so good, but now dodgy in the wet (highest tread wear rating I've seen at 520A)

    Cheers,

    Eric

If I was still running 19” for touring and off-road driving I would be using the Maxxis 980. The only LT rated tyre in the size. There’s already a long thread for the Maxxis.
