Injector tip doesn't seem so bad
Chugging has stopped with new injector
Still knocking. I have to find out how long the ECU takes to 'learn' the new injector.
Iron levels are only around 20ppm more than what I see from normal use(my normal levels range from 39-50), however the PQ index indicates larger particles of ferrous material are present so thats not a good thing. If your using a *w-30 oil then the viscosity is about right but theres a little more fuel dilution compared to what I see in my engine - typically 1% or under. The silicon levels are around double what I see in my engine so combined with the Aluminum theres a possibility of dirt ingress, but I'd say the Aluminum content is more than likely bearing wear at those levels.

A new or old engine I can vouch for and a lot of other parts should be cheap
I did not get my long range tank or rear wheel carrier off, fairly new gear box, Front control arms needed repair. This is not my car any more. Almost all pannels are hail damaged and possibly not much good for parts. Might go and see the price as I need a new D3 bull bar and did not get that off before they took my baby away![]()
Hi there. Sorry I am coming in very late on this one. Haven’t been here for a long time. I can’t believe there is still conjecture about Territory engines. I installed a 2012 terry into an 05 Disco 2 years ago and documented it. The only thing different was the injector pump which incidentally is also the same pump on a 2012 d3. That’s it. I’ve done 120000km. No issues. Used full long engine turbo everything.
Just don’t get me started on transmissions!!!!
As you may now be able to tell, there's no great rush to have the D3 fixed. We are quite blessed in this regard otherwise I'd be paying a lot more than I am.
Anyway, after playing around with injectors and such, it has been determined that it is likely the bottom end where the problem lay. As such, will be getting the final word today, and then I'll be looking for a territory engine.
Not always Chris.

I agree with both of you.
But I’m not in a position to do the labour myself at this time.
Sooooo in this position/predicament;
Pay $4k for an engine plus the cost to swap and know all is (comparatively) well, or;
Pay labour to have someone inspect the bearings. If the bearings are good then maybe I get away with a $2k bill. If the bearings are no good then I’m another... $1500 down the gurgler and I still have to buy the $4k engine.
So it comes down to preferences and gut-feelings.
And I’m not feeling lucky. So if I get another engine bolted in I know I’m good for another 150k Kim’s? Haha that said; the next one might only last 6,000kms also
If I get another engine now I’ll have this buggered engine to play with. I’d like to look at a few things on these engines.
Pie-in-the-sky type dreaming, I’d be really happy if I could help out people in this situation in the future. It’s fairly crazy that you can now buy a D3 for $13k, and to replace the engine will cost the same.
Gee I can get carried away.....
