Well that sucks because I punctured my ST's then Traded the 3 remaining tyres that were only 1 month old to STT's but I purchased them form a Tyrepower Store in a country area thus not getting any warranty.

Everyone raves on about them...... coming from the tyre industry if you rotate and balance your tyres - that is any brand every 10,000km and get a wheel alignment at the same time you WILL increase your mileage - thats how COOPERS manage to go on about their total mileage - thing is on any 4x4 if it doenst get 80,000 km and you have dome the RT,Bal and WA every 10,000km then there is sure to be someother reason they dont get the mileage - extreme duty perhaps or maybe good offroading thats why the city only warranty?

Dunlop pacific (inc Goodyear / Olympic / Remington / Bob Jane etc) and Bridgestone and most other (main stream) tyres sold in Australia offer a lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects ie:separation, de lamination, sidewall bulges - not caused by impact fracture and general poor manufacturing. The warranty on these tyres is pro rata - that is you pay for the amount of tyre you have used prior to the defect being noticed therefore if a tyre is 50% worn you pay only 50% on the new tyre 30% worn you pay 30% on the new tyre - the price of which for the purposes of warranty is worked out under a certain formula.

SO what Im saying is Coopers - like any other brand are a tyre are as good as any other tyre so long as the correct steps are taken in maintaining them - how many of you rotate balance and wheel align every 10,000km?

On top of this the cost of rotate, balance and wheel alingmnet on a 4x4 can be as much as $85 odd dollars based on $45 wheel alignmnet and $10 per wheel - if balanced properly - with a finger plate adapter and not just a centre cone. If done every 10,000 km for the life of a tyre which with coopers claim is 80,000km that is $680 which would buy you two new tyres if you never rotated them at all and simply changed the two front ones which became worn as the wheel alignmnet would be out......

so lets do the math -

4 x cooper tyres fitted and balanced in an average size say $1000 ( anyone have a better idea of price let me know and ill update )

    PLUS

$680 in rotation balance and wheel alignemnet over a 80,000km tyre life

    total

    $1680 for 4 tyres to last 80,000km

he he he that would buy me 9 x 225/75R16 Kelly AWR's which interestingly enough are made in the same factory so im told as BFG product.... I know for that money I would get far more than 80,000 km out of 9 tyres - probably closer to 150,000 km on the current wear rate of my tyres .....

To cut down the cost of balancing I purchased a product called 'Balance Beads' these are 25g of little glass beads that sit in the tyre and balance it. At a coast of $25 per bag and only needing 1 bag per tyre these work great and unlike balancing weights you wont lose them off the rims offroad.

I was doing a pit of prodding around on this subject and found an interesting link for all to check. Below is a small idea of what it has to say.

Problems with Cooper tires can also be linked to the widespread improper application of solvents during the tire production process. Employees also testified during these proceedings that foreign objects, including time cards and chicken bones, were mistakenly baked into tires during production. Workers were also allegedly ordered to pop blisters in the tire rubber that were up to eight inches in length instead of discarding them as scrap. Blister popping can compromise the integrity of the tire's inner lining which can lead to serious problems with Cooper tires. :?

go to www.d2au.com and click on the link that takes you to this guys Cooper delamination problem.

Coopers have given and are still giving him the run around. Two tyres delaminated within 150km of eachother, causing major damage to his SII Disco. So far Coopers have come up with lame excuses and procrastination.

Till I saw this I thought they were good. Now I wouldn't have Coopers if you gave them to me.

To be honest I was surprised to see everyone raving on about Coopers on here.

Way back when I was in Australia (5+ years ago now) a few people in the LROC Brisbane had Coopers and after taking them out once or twice they didn't bother again because they were crud.

Chipping and soft rubber made for a bad 4wd tyre....

Since people were praising them on here I thought they may have raised their game a bit - I guess not ops:

Well. took it to the dealer on Saturday and he thought I may have a claim on warranty. Since found out no warranty claim. Tyre patched from inside and tube installed, only really good for a spare now. The bolt did not come from the Landy but was picked up on the road at about 40kph (I was following behind on the Duke - now stuffed too). Missus pulled over straight away. I was amazed that a 12mm bolt about 150mm long could pierce through so easily. Have deflected worse with BFGs. Also tokk half a lug out. Will have to order another today, maybe. Dont know if I would get them again, maybe. The tyre I am not happy about but can live with. Their warranty is absolutely worthless. Delamination and chipping problems are covered on any tyre any way under statuatory warranty. Have had claims on Bridgestone and Dunlop tyres with no problems (fault of manufacturer proven).
Worse to come, picked up the Duke after a service on Monday arvo, got 25kms out of Kal about half way home and the timing belt came off destroying the timing cover in the process and who knows how much damage to the top end? Will be ringing the dealer today as timing belt inspection and adjustment was supposed to be part of the service. Only things I am not comfortable doing on the bike are timing belt, desmodromic valve system and carb tuning. Not happy. Especially in traffic at 120kph with two cars right up my clacker. And they reckon bike riders are dangerous, I get passed regularly at 120kph by cars doing 140kph plus, yet the Ducati will get picked out for doing 120kph go figure.

Had a similar bike expereience years ago, got new brake pads installed on the front disc, left the dealers and about 2 ks away needed the anchors bigtime, squeeze the lever, the caliper falls off and into the front spokes, they hadnt put the retaining bolts back in. I called them allsorts of names as I ran into that car.

The guy on the www.d2au.com forum with the delamination problem has aready had warranty knocked back on one tyre, because it'd had a puncture repair 8O , the other one is away for "testing"

now who was it that put Cooper tyres in the joke thread?
