What would you do - P0087 fault code (Fuel Rail Pressure too low)
Hi Luke,
really sorry that this issue remains unresolved for you. As we've previously discussed via PM's, we had our HPFP replaced following our 2011 (MY12) D4 2.7TDV6 throwing this same fault code, toward the end several time a day, while we traveled the Great Central Road. On each occasion turning the ignition on and off reset the system and we were able to continue, albeit for unknown distances and or times. Changing the fuel filter (clogged, presumably by a load of by dirty fuel), cleaning out fuel tank (small but apparently not unreasonable amounts of crud), testing Low Pressure Fuel Pumps (flow rate tested OK, twice - once in Alice Springs, once back in Adelaide), we bit the bullet and had our HPFP replaced on the advice of the indi where the car is serviced (PCB Landrover Specialist - Adelaide).
As we've discussed, if the issues is as infrequent as yours seems to be maybe it's in the category of 'wait and see'. Interestingly the proprietor of PCB suggested that in his experience the fault starts slowly and builds. Maybe it's worth giving PCB a call to have a discussion.
Just to give you an update, we've now traveled approx 7,500km since replacing the HPFP (and associated drive belts) without any re-occurrence of the fault. Makes me feel comfortable that the fault was either in the pump or one of the embedded sensors.
All the best mate.
