    2009 D3 Instrument Cluster Funnies

    I have searched a little but not found decent answers. I am sure they exist.

    The instrument cluster on my 09 SE TDv6 turns off from time to time whilst driving. That is, it all goes blank and the needles drop to zero. It can last from a second to say 30 seconds until it comes back alive. Also, at other times, the central LCD info display goes blank but then over the course of minutes slowly comes back. I can see it start to come back very faint then increases in intensity until normal.

    Have only noticed it over the last 2 months. I cannot see any pattern to it occurring.

    My Nanocom is broken so I cannot see if any codes exist.

    Is this a common issue on these cars? Are there any specific known causes? I will check for loose connections but I doubt if that is the issue. Looks to be more of a CAN-Bus thing?

    Repair existing or new diagnostic tool would be the best bet.

    Just got my Nanocom back so will check for codes tomorrow.

    I noticed last night that when the dash drops out (no lights, no tach, no speedo, no gauges) if i press and hold the odometer reset button the dash comes back to life. As soon as I release the button it all goes off again!!

    I cannot find any circuit diagrams of the dash PCB so cannot determine how the reset button interacts with everything. However, this appears to suggest that I don't have just a power or earth issue. More likely to be a circuit board fault. Anybody know of a company that repairs these things?

    Sounds to me like a circuit board fault ie cracked solder joint. When you press the odometer button its enough pressure to connect the weak join.

    On a similar note, I had the little LCD display freeze this morning when I started the car, so it was 8:17am and 11 degrees all the way from moss vale to gundagai!

    Sounds like you got yourself a time machine! How many gigawatts of power was going through the flux capacitor at the time?

    Hi - did you get this issue fixed? My cluster is doing exactly the same things. Mechanic removed the cluster and sent off to a business in Adelaide that re-flashes a second hand cluster with your info which is then replaced in the Disco. However, they've had a problem in that my 2009 Discovery 3 cluster was at the change-over to the Discovery 4 and they can't source a second hand unit.

    I did resolve the issue......eventually!!!!!!!

    I sent my cluster off to a WA company who claimed they could fix it. They couldn't. They then stuffed up a 2nd hand replacement. I ended up buying a new genuine cluster that my usual indy installed correctly.

    I expect your stuff has been sent to Triumph Rover Spares in Lonsdale SA. Again they make the claim that they can fix the clusters as they have the correct computer to re-programme. I had already started using this WA bloke so cannot give any feedback on TRS. They are a big place.

    Don't bother fixing yours - you can buy my whole D3 as I now have a D5.

    Mine will freeze the temperature on occasions,but never the time or anything else,done it since new.
    Dealer couldn't fix it during warranty.

    As an example,it will stay at, say,10 degrees when started in the morning,then as the day warms up,it stays at 10 degrees.
    Once the vehicle is turned off and on,it will normallyl reset to the correct temperature.
    Doesn't happen very often,but still happens on occasions.
