Certainly better in 20" on a D5/L494 than 20" on a D4.

Driving both for LRE, Discovery has more room extra seating and more rear wheel travel. If could only choose one it would be a TDV8 Sport.

You're more likely to be cut off by someone in an RRS while they yak away on their phone. Happens to me at least once a day here in Sydney.

I went for a low km L405 instead of both the Sport and the D5. So far it is incredible but less room in the boot than a D4, more than an L494. Even though it is a TDV6 it has effortless power and acceleration compared with the SDV6 D4 and is amazingly comfortable. My Disco Sport has more of the high tech stuff than the base model RRV though. The fuel consumption in the TDV6 RRV is almost the same as my DS with 135kW Ingenium and way better than my 2010 D4 which has lots of added weight, even when towing.
I had the same dilemma late last year... to get the SE disco 5 tdv6 5-seater with the Capability Plus pack I was looking at about $104k new. Also available for slightly less money ($99k, so pre-depreciated ! ) was a 2 year old RRS SDV6 (700nm) SE with the Dynamic option (torque vectoring etc) , only owned by Land Rover previously, with only 16k km on it - looked like new. I sat in the Disco 5 and sat in the RRS . The ambiance in the RRS felt a lot better to me, also the seats in the RRS were considerably more comfortable (and 2nd row higher) than the D5.
I tried to like the D5, but it was just missing that excitement factor, and unfortunately I took the RRS for a drive first, and well the D5 didn't get a look in after that.
So what am I missing out on by not getting the D5? Storage space, well for big trips I would take a caravan or trailer anyway so not really an issue for me. Wading depth, the extra 5cm is not likely to be an issue for me. 1 year of warranty - D5 comes with 3, the RRS came with 2 because it was not new, well I figure I can buy extra warranty down the track if I want. Depreciation - certainly there would be a depreciation hit on the D5, likely not so much on the RRS, since it already was depreciated from its original $140k price.
I get a smile on my face every time I get into the RRS, its my mid-life-crisis purchase, the smile gets bigger when I put it in Dynamic on a twisty road - woohoo . Side-note, the SE spec RRS with the 700nm motor could be ordered with the Dynamic option only for MY15.5 and then again in MY17 onwards, otherwise you would have to stump up for the HSE Dynamic model. I wouldn't buy the RRS without the Dynamic option, the equation would tilt back to the D5 for me. I certainly would not be able to afford a RRS HSE Dynamic, and if that particular RRS that I bought was not available at the time, I would have bought the D5. However, if a D5 pulls up next to me at the traffic lights, do I wish I had bought that instead? Nope (hell, nope)
This is really interesting, space seems to be the only main tick for the disco even on a disco forum.
i really (really!) like the overall look of the d5 but space isn’t my biggest driver nor is wading depth.
