Many thanks to both of you for your time and advice. Gap IID tool it will be. Im sure it will be much more than just a key programming device. Any group buys or recommended suppliers. Cheers Steve.

I found that duckworths had the best price when I bought mine. Contact Dan Roberts and mention that you got his name on this forum. His e-mail address is dan.roberty@duckworth.co.uk. There is a Group Buy thread, you could also check there as well as googling the name and some other suppliers will pop up. Don't forget to factor in freight when comparing prices.

Hi Steve. Thought you might be interested in the GAP response.

Q1. Just trying to clarify your instructions on key programming on pages 114-118 of the user manual.

Reading the instructions it seems to imply that the tool only programs key with an actual key to insert into the ignition as it talks about turning the ignition on and off and putting it into accessory mode. My LR D4 does not have a key as such, it only has a press button remote. What is the procedure for remote only cars?

A1. Instructions for your car are at page 118.
    Add a key (VIN Locked L322-10, L319-10,L320-10, L538, L359 2013+)

Q2. I did see that section but wasn’t sure as it is headed “Add A Key” where the other say “Key Programming” and I thought that this section was an add on so to speak.

Where it says This routine is used to add one (1) new key to the vehicle. It will not remove previously programmed keys. Does this mean that I can only add one key or one key at a time? That is, can I program as many keys as I like or is there a limit?

A2. There is a limit actually but I think it's 10keys. We've used the same function name as LR which can indeed be confusing...

    Hope this helps.

Thanks Martin for the extra detective work.
Just to be clear I do want to “add a key” as I have just one. I think I did read somewher that you can program up to 10 keys. ( wife reckons in need more!). She’s probably right. Talking to my expedition 130 defender owning son ( he works in IT) last night and he can’t wait to have a crack at it. Good grief. Off topic can one apply better tunes with this. Island 4x4 have them for 354 pound so not bad. Freight is reasonable
    regards

    Hi Steve.

Not a problem, I wanted to find out too. I have no experience with the tunes so cannot advise you there but Gap have this on their web site. I would write to Dan Roberts before you buy to check their price. It was quite a bit lower than elsewhere when I bought mine in March last year.

    Programming issue

So my IID tool arrived and all activated and updated. Go to add a key function and follow the on screen instructions. It tells me I will need a functioning key as well as the new one. Which I have. I get to a step which says I will be “required to press and hold the unlock button when prompted”. Press to continue. So I press to continue and get a message “operation failed. E7 error”. I don’t even get the opportunity to press the key. The battery in the new fob test fine. So I am out of ideas here. The key admittedly was an eBay buy and 434 MHz. The motherboard has similar numbers on it to the original. What am I doing wrong?
    Cheers steve

    Hi Steve.

Unless someone has a solution I would contact GAP support. I looked to see if E7 was in the manual and it said not.

How many times have you tried?
    Is the door closed?

Just tried the key on your advice but no go. I have tried perhaps 10 times. I am curious as I did the set up steps and was sent a code but the screen, my iPhone, did not give me the option to enter the code. I was assuming it was automatic activation but reading the manual is does say a code is needed. How can I check if it’s activated. My thought here is if it’s not activated properly perhaps this function won’t work. It does tell I have two keys registered and actions like shutting the engine down in the add a key process works on que.
    cheers Steve
