    D4 Steering Shimmy/Wobble Problem

    Hi Guys.

I was driving on the motorway today and noticed at around 100kph a vibration through the steering wheel. I took my hands slightly off the wheel and it was rocking back and forth about 2 or 3 centimeters.

Never had this issue before. Only change to that area was that the dealer replaced the LCA's under extended warranty last November. Don't do much high speed driving so haven't noticed it before now. I thought that it may be the area of the road i was one but it happened elsewhere on the return journey.

I did a search but couldn't find anything similar. That my be an indictment of my searching skills though.

    Any ideas?

    Martin

    Thanks Tombie.

The thought had occurred to me but I thought to call on the wisdom of the group in case there may be something else I hadn't thought of before I paid for wheel balancing.

If you had stick ons and not knock ons. Take a look for the telltale remnant of double sided tape...

Rotors only need to out by 0.3mm to cause shimmy under braking. If it's shimmy'ing whilst driving (I.e. not braking), wheel balance, tie rod ends, hubs and bearings in that order.

It will be rotors, guaranteed. Mine did exactly the same. After replacing hubs and all control arms at 220000km still there. A $60 rotor skim and all sorted. I believe the front hub bearings hid most of the shudder, they were flogged out btw. All ok now

Did you take them off or have them done on the car? Where did you take it?

Took them off DJ, local brake repairer near me in Port Kennedy: Advanced Brake Remanufacturers. 30 bucks per rotor done on their grinding machine. Top job, took them about an hour. Happy with the result, no shudder.
