I’ve had my windscreen replaced under Suncorp Ins by O’Briens in Townsville - no problems!

With a genuine unit or aftermarket?

    That’s often the challenge.

    I don't know!

It didn't occur to me to ask for "genuine", so it was probably aftermarket. To be honest, I don't really care. A windscreen is a windscreen to me. They put it in - everything seems to work as expected.

I got another BIG stone hit about a month later. Actually saw the rock coming. Fortunately, the large bullet strike-like craze is out of me line of site behind the rear view mirror - so it can stay there until something cracks the screen where it matters.

Where I go, I get lots of stone chip!

I tried out an aftermarket screen from O'Brien - took the risk - it is definitely noiser, particularly in rain. I'm sure I couldn't hear light rain before....

They stuffed up the clips badly even after being explicitly asked but did fix it in the end. Fortunately the trim didn't completely come off.

Otherwise it is fine. I can see through it.

The fitment of my after market screen from Austral was fine, they warned me that the rain sensor removal and refit can be problematic, I can see that the silicone pad is incomplete on the refit to the new screen - but it works. I certainly think the glass is thinner / weaker than the original, I noticed it flexing when refitting my phone mount!

Just had my D4 windscreen crack. RACT Tas won't pay for genuine but instead will pay out the O'Briens quote to them of $1058 and I'll have to seek a genuine one at my cost.

Every fitter of course wants to fit the Chinese aftermarket unit which they say is guaranteed..meets Aus stds..and is the same anyway....just not labelled!

Not had a price yet but RACT say the genuine unit is very very expensive.

Think I'll seek insurance that pays for genuine windscreens next time😐

RACV told me the same (and I have windscreen cover with them). But they said I could fit genuine and submit a claim and they would pay the pro-rata amount. I did this and they paid the full amount. So go figure!
Just a tip. Find out from your Landrover dealer who they get to fit windscreens. A local Melbourne dealer happily told me and the two chaps who came to fit my screen were obviously very knowledgeable and did a really good job. I also purchased the clips with the genuine screen and I suggest you do the same.

Great advice...thanks I'll give the LR dealer a call and doubly make sure they use correct clips.

Okay..Tilfords were v helpfull. They use a small independant fitter and use aftermarket screens which they say are no trouble if the rain sensor is correctly fitted and proper clips are used.

I asked about gen screens which they said they can supply if wanted especially. I got the feeling they are not asked for often😐

Anyhow....the recomnended fitter quoted 500 bucks or half O'Briens cost to RACT!

Think I'll be asking for a payout but I'll see what gen costs first...tomorrow now.

    Here’s the important part.

The windscreen must be equal to the original that is removed.
Because the LR glass has a thermal rejecting property and the correct labelling it is these standards that need to be met.

Many of the aftermarket, unlabelled glass often does not have this and without labelling is not compliant. I’ve seen several that also either leaked or noisy as the profile was slightly off.

Genuine is LR041463 and listed at $402.60
Don’t forget to add the genuine trim clips for the A pillars.
