It looks as if LT spec is dying in the typical size of 265/60R18 for our D3/RRS - trying to get LT AT tyres in that size and it is almost impossible. Yes the BFGs are LT but at around $400 are just too expensive - I can get Bridgestone 697s for $305 but are they really LT with a load rating of 114? The dealers say yes they are LT but the LT does not appear in the tyre spec like the BFGs do. 114 is a bit light for a LT in that size - but when I quizz the dealer on sidewall construction etc the shutters just come down and they quote the 114 load rating.
Toyo AT2 in that size are only Passenger as are Hankook RF10s - not interested in Coopers.
The other tyre is the Nitto Terra Grappler G2 which the dealers say is LT because it has a load rating of 114 - the logic is a bit the same as Bridgestone - if load rating is 114 or above it is LT if it is below 112 it is passenger. These are $261 - so any recommendations?
So anyone know of another 265/60R18 LT tyre that is OK and reasonably priced.
If not, I might go the Nittos.

I'm in the same boat as you Garry. I would like to replace the D697's on my D3 in the next month or two, but can't get anyone to definitively give me an answer on what is a true LT tyre in the 265/60/18 size.

I’m unsure what all this BS about the number of LT tyres is decreasing, it’s actually increasing!
My next set will be Falken AT3Ws. An XL tyre that more than meets my requirements of a heavy duty tyre.

Yes I appreciate they say that but their load rating is only 114 the same as some passenger grade tyres - eg the Nittos. The BFG KOs have thicker sidewalls than the D697s - in ply terms. The KOs are 3 ply side walls but the D697s only have 2 ply sidewalls but they do say they are thicker so I guess thicker rubber without the plys.Quote:

Bridgestone used to claim that their sidewall plies were 1500 denier vs 1000 denier for BFG, therefore at least 'equaling' BFG in sidewall strength.Quote:
