So now have Nitto Terra Grapper G2 265/60R18T fitted. New they are quiet and I guess only time will tell how they work out but the reviews are good - for the price certainly worth the gamble and better that paying double for the BFGs which dont actually have great reviews.

I think you will be happy with them Garry. They are a good quality Japanese tyre and give good life, $195 each is an excellent price. Except for my V1s being a little slippery in the wet I was very happy with them. If I drove accordingly it wasn't a problem. Hopefully the V2s are an improvement.
Mine only got slightly noisier over the 70000km and still had some life left when I took them off. They were a lot quieter than the Monstas I have now.

41psi in the front... I’d be dropping that to 32-34...

Way to firm, and you may find some DSC intervention on damp roads.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. The guy at the tyre place said 40 all round and I added 1 for the bull bar. Why is the rear higher than front? I thought more weight in the front would warrant a higher pressure. Then again, I don't know the science involved.

As a general rule... the tyre placard +2-4psi usually works well..

Thanks Tombie. I appreciate the advice. The tyre placard doesn't show 18", should I just use the 19" as the appropriate baseline? It shows 36F and 42R for the oem 255/55/19 tyres.

Yes at the end it was a toss up between the Monsta and the Nittos - the Monsta will be a better offroad tyre but the reality is that most vehicles will spend most of their time onroad so that is important but they also need to be good enough to have a look down an interesting track - I dont like mud so wont go there and these will be good enough for most other terrains.

Certainly onroad behaviour, dry and wet is good. I will head up into the Brindies after it snows in a couple of weeks and give them a run - a terrain they do not rate all that well.

Discos are surprisingly rear heavy (though I’ve never put one on wheel scales). I think with a frame, gearbox, transfer case, rear diff etc a larger proportion of the weight leans to the rear. This is explained by the General finding that tyre wear is even or biased rearward and the tyre placard also points to this with it’s recommended pressures.
I’ve used 36F 42R when rowing and touring but found 42R cold still has seen 50PSI hot which doesn’t conform to the +4 hot “rule”. I’ve since changed to a different tyre which supports higher pressures so will experiment further. I run 35F and 38R day to day.
