Tyre pressure during the hot summer days
Although mine are 20", I've found them to be not so good in the wet after some wear, but excellent in the dry. Not long after I bought them, I had an incident on the FWY where they did the job fine in the wet, but in just the last couple of weeks, I've had a couple of under-steer moments which have taken me by surprise. It could just be lots of oil with the recent wet weather after a fairly long dry spell, but we'll see. Not happy that I can here them, but they are only very slightly noisier than when they were new, so not bad in that respect.
Currently looking to go to either the TuffAnt or Compomotives soon, so rather interested in whats being said here. The Falken look not to bad. I'll be looking at some in the flesh in the next few weeks.
I heard recently that the +4 psi rule does not apply to LT tyres — rather, for LT tyres it is +6 psi. I personally have no idea and am not sure if your tyres are LT or not. I do know that with my BFG KO2, the cold pressures started getting very high when I was following the 4 psi rule. I'm still working out pressures for 6 psi as I don't do enough long runs.
Well to top that off is point of reference..
I checked my tyre pressures about mid January, I set them and calibrated my TPMS at the same time.
It was 23c when I set them, hadn’t been driven, tyres were ambient...
I set them F:32 R:40
On a run they got to 36 and 44 so I nailed the 4psi guide
Now they haven’t deflated at all in the last few months... and at 10am if I check them they’re about 31 & 39 and it’s about 20c by then.
But if I jump in it right now (I went and checked) it’s F:28 and R:35... if I go for a drive this will level out quickly.
So you need to check your reference point!
Well, as they say, you learn something every day. Never considered ambient temperature affected the tyre pressure before. I only ever thought about whether I had driven the car and hence the tyres were heated because of that. Kind of obvious when you think about it though.

Thats why race cars run nitrogen in the tyres,an inert gas.We also use it for pressure testing pipework for the same reason.
Another thing is if you check vehicle tyres in morning, say in garage, and note pressures, then park vehicle so sun shines on one side of vehicle then check pressures again after an hour or so,you will find the tyres in the sun are about 1 to 2PSI higher than the other side.Tyres seem to warm up quickly in the sun.
For anyone interested, I was talking to the local Falken tyres rep yesterday and he 'suggested' I hold off buying my tyres till July as there will most likely be another one of their 'buy 3 tyres, get the 4th tyre free' deal happening.
