i can buy 3 fuel filters for our 35ltr cat engines in our trawlers for less than 1 fuel filter for my D3 , so for my money they ain't cheap at all .

When I did maintenance on fishing trawlers, as each engine typically would use 3 or 4 fuel filters, when I ordered a pallet load of filters it was nothing to add half a dozen Land Rover filters on top of each order so in the wider cost it was barely a drop in the ocean.

Have asked our suppliers if they could source the D3 fuel filter... Reply went something like - do yourself a favour and put in a completely different housing and filter , there are far better and cheaper filters than those.

After much looking , I haven't come up with a spot to even try it , so I just accept the cost as a part of owning the car. I change it every 10,000ks or 12 months , which unless we do a trip away we would be lucky to do that many kms in 12 months.

My 2005 did the same. On a big incline on a long climb very slowly off wonnangatta river. Pretty sure the Long range tanks one way valve was not perfect and most of the fuel in the main tank drained back down to the long range tank. No warnings or issues as soon as level and the main tank refilled. It happily cruised to the top with the low fuel light on for 15 minutes and range suggesting 0km left. Did make me sweat just a bit[thumbsupbig]

When grumpy with landrover such as when it stopped on the freeway yesterday, I had some time to reflect in its shortcomings, I do wonder how we can all get such a wide range of responses for exactly the same issue. The 2005 was a real sook and pain in the backside until I added LED brake lights. I know not every one has them and as not every one whines about the "3 amigos" biting them I assume some peoples D3s do not respond as poorly to a blown globe as mine did.

Disco Perma gin back in place. My Black 2009 is still to pretty for my ugly mug with no snorkel, bull bar, rock sliders, roof rack, UHF/VHF, LAMS, rear wheel and long range tank yet!. So much to do
