    Auxiliary Battery Issues

I'm having battery issues with the auxiliary Yellowtop Optima, does anyone know what could be causing this to happen (see attached) within 7 days of being connected to even just a 50mA drain (I disconnected the solenoid and let it sit there for 7 days, it drained down to 11.9V from 12.7 with 50mA read from the ammeter in series.)

I've taken it in for a warranty check, but am being told it's the car, basically, as he can't get the battery to sulfate like it is when in the vehicle.

Attached pic is from when i first noticed it. I clean it up and took it to get checked, was told it's fine, re-fitted and it pooled on the lid again. Not sure how it's not happening for the testing company, he said it tested it at 4A for a long period of time.... Not sure what to do at this point, it should be getting replaced whether it happens during his test or not in my opinion as it's meant to be sealed i thought???

How can it be the car's fault when the start battery is twice as old and fine?

From research i found it's most likely a busted terminal seal that's causing the fluid to ooze out through the terminal base...

Main problem is being from another state, and the fact the company i bought it through closed down so dealing with Optima direct...

Any advice? Would you trust a batter that goes from freshly clean to pooled with fluid within a week? Should this be being replaced whether he can reproduce it or not? Seeing as it's meant to be sealed and is clearly no longer...

It was also causing the alternator to work overt-time, i could smell burning electronics! Which is why i popped the bonnet to look, and found this. Disconnect the axillary battery and haven't had a problem since with the starter battery. Smell has gone too. Before people say it, the colour on top is just red dirt, clear fluid can be see after I cleaned it, and no extra heat was felt around any of the cells.

I should wait for Drivesafe to chime in here because he is considerably mere experianced with these things But looking at the corrosion build up (The grey stuff) on that earth terminal suggest to me that you have a loose fitting causing it to "Arc" out and this would explain the power loss.

    12.7 is 100%
    11.9 is 40%

therefor 60% of the battery is 8.4Ah and the total capacity is 14.0Ah which is a long way from the named capacity of 55Ah

I know two people who’ve had warranty denied on Yellowtops that warped but didn’t leak. With the change of distributor there seems to have been a change of attitude to warranty.

I'll call the Optima contact again on Monday, my main issue is with the guy testing it tbh. Gives a report saying there's nothing wrong with it when I drop off a sealed battery looking similar to the above picture. . .
